This is why lance is fastly becoming one of my favorite and "go to" mods... i mean, this is a perfect solution to what plagues many serious threads that last for more than a few pages. sure, a bit of tomfoolery is fine, and fun, and even better when mixed in with a serious response. but when a thread starts getting derailed, this is a great way to make the out of control behaviour cease. cheers to lance for trying something new and thinking outside of what is normal CC procedure. i hope this proves effective.-0

Yes Owen, I totally agree.... it's unfortunate that there are players that do though. Even stating things like I know this is off-topic BUT, clearly trying to derail a thread. In these instances, I commend Lance and the other Mod's patience with posters in these forums- almost like dealing with kindergartners, for lack of a better word, on a daily basis would be very stressful . Perhaps that's how and why Wicked was intolerable with the slightest offenses and locked everything slightly off topic.

I do not think he was taking the topic off track .He was just explaining what happened in a thread that was "Locked" .We may have to discuss other peoples views on threads that got locked .That is what a forum is all about .Now that you have explained Owen .I hope you can get down to what you actually want out of a forum and what we want as a community .
What I want is for Mods to Stop locking popular Threads just "Because" .

so owen displaying pm's he received from scot-land is not going off topic?

Your unhealthy obsession with everything Owen does is very much off topic and one of the reasons threads get locked.

Owen, PMs are supposed to be private, not posted in the forums. Except when those PMs break a rule (like proposing secret diplomacy).

From what I've seen, lancehoch has been doing what many people have asked for by giving thread time-outs. Things get heated, it gets locked, then several hours or a day or two later, the thread is reopened. I'm glad he chose to reopen that thread because it did seem to be a decent enough discussion. In C&A, not all cases are cut and dry. That specific case deals more with one of the unwritten rules, so it's good to get the various viewpoints. I'm guessing it was locked partially because the same comments were being repeated with nothing new being added or interpreted.

Also, I can't believe it myself, but I find that I'm agreeing with hulmey. :o It is the people who have the "GFY" comments which lead to replies that derail topics. I encourage everyone to remind themselves of the posting basics:
Forum Guidelines wrote:One: Is my post really necessary or is it just mental diarrhea?
Two: Am I trolling or feeding a troll?
Three: Really?

This last question should be asked at least twice but is often ignored because everyone likes to think that they are saying something ground breaking when in fact ā€œGFYS muthafugging azzholeā€ and ā€œyou suck dickā€ are in fact not new and the only thing they will break is your reputation.

There's a saying where you're supposed to think before you speak, well that is even more true in a forum where your "words" are actually recorded. If everyone took a moment to use the Preview button before posting and then reread their comments, there would be many fewer off-topic and unnecessary posts.

excuse me, but they were pm's i sent, and i can post my own words wherever i please. if you have an issue with my posting MY pm's to another member, give me a forum ban. if not, leave me alone, i have not broken any rules of the GD. i am tired of harassment over "infractions" that are not infractions. and yeah, this is off topic, and i don't care, because i am quickly growing tired of the knee jerk reactions from some of the mods on this site. and your statement kind of shows what a refreshing breath of MOD-AIR lancehoch is... actually, it isn't off topic, because this illustrates the point of how a person or mod comes into a thread, doesn't read something thoroughly and jumps to an invalid conclusion... *shaking my head*-0

Oops, I owe Owenshooter an apology. Those PMs appear to have actually been the ones he had sent but were quoting scott's comments from public threads. I assumed the quotes were also from PMs.

Well I went to reply to 2 threads today and both were locked .I won't say which ones coz more likely more got locked that I missed .I honestly couldn't see a single reason why they got locked .As I couldn't see any reasons before for a website that claims to be liberal .You sure lock down freedom of speech BIGTIME

I absolutely adore getting my threads locked. I explode with glee everytime it happens.

I don't. My perfectly reasonable "CAPTAIN PLANET FANCLUB" was in the right clan descriptions. I even said what the clan was about. I guess environmentalists just aren't wanted..

Anyway, I hate threads getting locked. Just let them go, who cares? Seriously, if people are posting, isn't that a good thing? You're just killing the forums.

Some threads are even being locked, when it's blatantly obvious that the locker didn't even read the thing.

I know a site that doesn't lock as many threads as CC .Maybe the MODs can move there for a week or two for a vacation .Then we can get down to some sirius stuff .
