( this is largely regarding 1vs1 games but it still applies to 3-4 player games)
1- In your first turn, dont rush for an area, play it slow by focusing on getting a single territory. This prevents you from spreading yourself thinly and allowing the your opponent to attack easy single troop defended points.
2- Fortification is really important. in 1vs1 games, the trick is to fortify *from* points that are protected by neutral barriers.
3- Don't assume that getting a Region bonus is a must do early game. you'll often waste a large amount of troops, killing Neutrals that are actually helping you, by providing barriers etc. remember you also get bonus troops from holding large numbers of territories.
4- if you see a point where your opponent is weaker, take it. the less territories they have the less troops they get remember. its also a bonus, if the thinly spread area you just took is protected by your/others troops, it means they cant retake them.
5- If your opponent is trying to take a region for a troop bonus, don't necessarily attack them back, (i think) you have an advantage in defence so if possible, take your turn as per usual and then fortify from deeper in your lines, this should wear their troops thin and allow you to attack next turn. However, if you don't have any fortification access points, and you want to prevent them from getting the region, place all your troops on a single area and attack the weakest territory your opponent has then reinforce from the other one keeping your troops evenly distributed.
These are my five Tips, Noob to Noob. i have only played a few games but it has worked well for me so far. please feel free to contribute/ give an opinion on them
I hope you have success!
