For some of the maps with more complex game-play - attacks, resetting neutrals, multiple bonuses - there is often a lot of info compressed in the map borders. It's easy to miss or misunderstand things.
I'm thinking particularly of Stalingrad, Crusade, Waterloo and Napoleonic Europe, WWII Poland, Monsters, I'm sure there are others.
In the last few days I missed the re-setting neutral on the english channel in Crusade and had to read through the disscussion topic on Stalingrad to understand the artillery bombardment rules.
Would it be possible to assemble a collection of complete explanations of maps like these, things like, you can't get off a plane once you are on it in WWII Poland - I got caught out by this one too. I'm currently in a game on that map where it is someones only territory, a slow and boring death.
I'm thinking of a collection of text explanations. We could maybe ask people to contibute explanations of particular maps or things they found unclear when first playing them. These could all be put in one place for new players to read through, maybe with a link from the map to the explanation, like the "discussion topic" link.
As to how this will benifit the site. It may help with what seems to be a problem of new recruits joining games on these maps and then dissapearing because of the diffucuties of understanding some of the subtleties involved. It could also mean other players not having to wait around while the NR misses three turns.
I know you can always ask questions in game chat and I do when things aren't clear, but you don't always get answers. Sometimes none of the other players know whats going on, or claim not to anyway.
I realise that there are answers in the map disscusions but searching through all those pages for the bit of info you need is a pain. so it would be nice to have one place to go to find explanations.
