Cheap Tactic to Announce You're Dropping a Game But Not?

Postby saxitoxin on Mon Sep 27, 2010 9:31 am

I was recently in a 3-way where one participant in the 3-way announced that they were tired and were dropping out. (This thread relates to a game, not my evening proclivities.)

As if to emphasize the fact they were dropping out, they missed two turns. The other participant in the 3-way and myself were locked in a furious struggle and so simply side-stepped the departing participant rather than lose energy confronting his, presumably, uncontrolled armies. With our own resources depleted, the dropping player suddenly re-emerged, seized control of his armies and won the game! ARGH!

My other opponent was quite put-off by this. I thought it was a cunning stratagem. What you all think, gang?

I'd applaud him on his victory, give him a smile, then foe the son of a... ;)

Actually to be honest I have never foed anyone for that and I never will, because I've never trusted anyone at their word in such a situation and have always specifically warned all other participants in the games not to alter their strategy significantly until said player HAS dropped.

It's a cheap tactic no doubt, but then again if your naive enough to fall for it... :D

I'm naive enough to fall for a lot of things, that included. Though, actually, I friended him afterward because I think a foe is just a friend you don't know well enough.

cheap tactic, but an awesome cheap tactic. tag the player as such, but do not foe.

Cheap tactics though if i were in the game i would have said to the other remaining player no attacking till he is officially out of the game and has deadbeated or this kind of thing can happen.

Yup.
It does give advantage to one of the players remaining though, getting first turn after the deadbeat.
I find it's worthwhile, being the other player, to attack the turn before the deadbeat.

it's just a different game, in a fun way. especially for those stalemates.

I've been trying it for the last couple games but can't get it to work for me. You need to know exactly when to use it. I've tried announcing - in the very first turn - that something came up, like I'm having a heart attack or my house is on fire or something, and I need to deadbeat, but they just eat me up anyway and there's nothing to which to come back. Then I just tried it in Game 7708632 but I waited too long in that one and I was still destroyed.

I'm at a loss at how to find the perfect balance. I was hoping this tactic would be "it" for me. I had been announcing to other players I was being held hostage and I had to win the game or they'd kill my family but no one ever believed me. Except once some dude from Croatia did but how can you count that you'll always be playing opponents from Croatia?

Getting very frustrated with CC lately, gang.

I'd just foe all members and move back to East Germany behind the wall where no one could get you if I were you.

Pardon?

The wall is gone?!?!?

When?????

I don't even.....

OK, Cuba then.
