Players inviting outsiders into tournament game!?

Postby WorldCup4James on Thu Aug 05, 2010 4:38 am

I´m currently running a tournament (2010 August Classic, viewtopic.php?f=91&t=123151) and in one of my tournament games (Game 7411868) one of the 4 players already in the game must have invited both CamelToe and xxxHaasxxx to the tournament, both players not having signed up for the tournament as indicated by the List of Players spoil on the tournament post. I think it´s unfair to take a spot from a player who took the effort to sign up for the tournament.

Is purposelly inviting players who didn´t sign up for the tournament into a tournament game a form of cheating? What sort of disciplinary measure should be taken if I can prove who invited the players?
Thanks for answering :)

Speaking only for myself, this is grounds for immediate removal from the tournament for the individual who invited them (make sure you know who did it for sure, of course). If it can't be determined who did it, I suspect (though I'm not sure) that Night Strike might be able to determine it. At any rate, you should definitely inform him of the situation, as he is the Tournament Director.

I doubt it's meant as cheating...most likely, someone just wasn't paying attention to the fact that it was a tournament game. That being said, it's their responsibility to make sure, so I don't have any sympathy for them.

There was a suggestion put in to make it impossible for players to do this sort of crap, but so far it's been shouted down by people who don't believe it affects tournament organizers enough to bother with:

Considering one recognises both those names from the cheating & abuse forum it wouldn't be the biggest shock in the world if this was done on purpose... That's only speculation though ofc, and it could be an honest mistake.

If there isn't one already a tournament player blacklist should be created. (and a TO blacklist too, for those very few that give other TO's a bad name)

Regarding the game in question is should naturally be re-created. Let the game be rendered moot, a duplicate made, and the right people invited. No need to punish everyone for the mistake/ or malicious act of two.

considering that foelists do not work with tournaments, a blacklist might do..

otherwise. recreate those games. if these players disrupt any other games report them to the ceating and abuse forum.. i think we need a clarification and a ban soon..

that would be a publicly (or privately) operated forum thread.
now that i think about it. foelists would work, since the participants forumpost would also be invisible...so they cannot sign up(since you cannot read their entry), unless you allow them

I thought this was impossible. Doesn't the password established when tourney games are created prevent others from signing up or inviting someone else?

edited: exactly. tournament games are password protected. Those games that are protected either come with a password you can pass on to friend or with an autojoin link that contains the password, and, some smart reading later, you can still send the password to your friends.

the only time this does not work is when all places are reserved, thus players have actually been invited to join the game. unless ofcourse the invite expires (after 24 hours) so then you could invite people from outside the tournament.

ALL tournament games are password protected, but once you're in any game with a password (tournament or private), you can invite anyone else to the game.

And yes, as an organizer, it's up to you whether you want to immediately kick the offending player out or give them another chance. Either way, the game can't be dropped and will probably have to be remade in order for the tournament to progress.

Well, ChewyBlu3y was banned anyway, he might have been inviting the players so hopefully that issue is taken care of. I´ve recreated the game, P.M.´d each of the 4 "suspects", the 4 players in the game, and if it happens again they´re gone. thanks for the help

In fact, this is precisely why I put a statement in my tournament origination thread regarding people on my foe list not being allowed into the tournament. Well, that and I don't want the jackasses. <grin>
