Scoring

Postby Demosthenes the on Mon Jul 26, 2010 6:39 pm

I'm sure this question has been asked and answered a million times, so sorry for those of you who are rolling your eyes right now.

How does game scoring work?
The explanation on the site says something about winners score divided by losers score, but I don't know what scores they are referring to.

I find there are games where I do considerably better than another player, but they get a score just as good as me, which doesn't seem right.
I guess I'm overlooking something in the strategising, so knowing how scoring works would be very useful.

Thanks

General formula: (Loser's score at the moment the game ends/winner's score at the moment the game ends) * 20

For a team game, the loser's score is the sum of everyone's individual score on the losing team, and vice versa for the winner's. If there are more than 2 teams in a game, then score the winner gets is the sum of the points gained from each individual team.

For example, if Team 1 wins and Teams 2 and 3 lose, then the formula for points gained/lost would look like this:

((Team 2's combined score/Team 1's combined score)*20=points lost by Team 2)+((Team3's combined score/Team 1's combined score)*20=points lost by Team 3)=points gained by Team 1

So, what happens if one player in the winning team has been eliminated before the game ends? Does he get points for being in the winning team, or does he lose points for being eliminated?

He'd gain points. You'll find that often in a team/multi-team escalating-spoils game that someone would kill their partner so that they can use their spoils to cash in and sweep the rest of the board.

you win with your team or you die with your team. even if you died, you still gain points if your team won.

The scores they are referring to are the point totals before the points of that particular game are rewarded. Currently, your score is 1041.

The amount of points you get doesn't depend in any way on how well you play in the game. It only matters who you play.

The only exception to this is the terminator setting, where you get points for eliminating opponents rather then winning the game.

Eh, to sum it all up, it would kind of look like this.

If you lose a game with 2 players, points lost =
(your score)
-------------------- x 20 = POINTS LOST FOR LOSING
(opponent's score)

If there are more than 2 players, you just do that over again and add it all up, but if you win, YOUR score goes on the bottom of the fraction and theirs goes on top, same way.

In a team game, each team is practically treated as if the team is one player itself when it comes to scoring, so if Team A beats Team B and Team C, Team A would get points equal to:

(Team B's total points) ` ` `(Team C's total points)
-------------------------- x20 + -------------------------- x20 = Team A's GAINED points.
(Team A's total points) ` ` `(Team A's total points)

Terminator games are a bit different. In standard games, you would have to win the game to get points, in terminator games, you calculate your points like normal EACH TIME you eliminate an opponent, it's as you go along, so you can still get points, even if you don't win (but you won't get a terminator medal =[ ).
Voila!
(Please excuse any errors, I wrote this at 4:13 in the morning  )

That's all good, but how do I know what my score is to do all the sums on?
Does it show up during the game itself?

the time of calculating a CHANGE in your score, is right at the end of the game. So you can go from general to cook and vice versa during the game, but all that is important is the moment you win; the score you have at that exact moment.
e.g. with terminator you can think, okay red is 2000 points, me too so i get 20 points, do i kill him now or go for the game... if you kill him, your new score would immediately be 2020.

as to what your score is, click on the name of yourself and your opponents. A profile will appear, the third line from above denotes the current score. (if the play other games as well, their score can fluctuate at any moment..)
