Is this against the rules?

Postby jigger1986 on Fri Jul 09, 2010 4:32 pm

Just for the record I have never done this, but I see it happen from time to time. If in a game I mass a large army and put it adjacent to an opponent. At the end of my turn in the game chat I say something like, "if you dont move from (enter territory here) next turn I will atack/smash/suicide you.
Again I realized that at the very least these terror tactics are shady, but are they against the rules. I have seen some very irrational players that WILL suicide under these circumstances. However if the same results are gained by moving armies to an area and having your opponent withdrawl without the verbal threats, the strategy is not terroristic in nature.
The bottom line is, is the use of these threat based tactics against the rules?

As far as I'mn aware it's 100% legal.

Threat of force is somthing one uses all the time in flatrate, though unspoken most of the time. Some players jsut take it a step further I suppose. Many "honorable" players denounce such tactics, and I symphasise, but end of the Day, Sun Tzu would applaud such strategy =) Why waste armies when one can achieve ones goals through diplomacy?

Not against the rules, in fact it can be a very useful tactic to use when someone occupies a region that gives you a big benefit but doesn't help them that much.

anything you want to say about the game/strategy promises and threat, say it in game chat. Whatever you say there is unenforciable, so yes you are allowed to renegade on a truce. Expect others to rate you backstabber, but you have that right! So make the best use of it, an know all (that is permitted under the rules) is fair in love and war...

now go and kill someone (else)!

All this is considered Diplomacy. But you shouldn't suicide because you will find yourself and the person you suicided against in a weaker position. If you do, you might end up getting foed

Good point. Maybe you won't have to if they just move out. Most people don't like suiciders.

Of course, it has to be in game chat. Or you will be court marshalled and get a warning if found guilty by the jury(by that I mean LoVo, King Sam and Eye84free

Yeah, in escalating I also do that every now and then.
I also followed through on my warnings, only to get added on someone's foe list.
Bloody players should have listened and free'd some space up

I have gone as far as to suicide other players in freestyle escalating speed on multiple occasions. This is because if they dont have a set with 4 cards i win and they have said they have have a set. Then i will say if i start im not stopping so you might want to cash now. This is because it is bad for me to cash if i dont kill them. Then i go for it and they cash but they better know that next time they will lose if they dont cash.
