that is a common tactic and i use it but sometime if you get a bad start i just place all my troops in one safeish territory and try and build in time (especially good in no card games).

flat rate game u need a cont really. no cards if u get weak its virtually impossible to regrow. u need a cont in no cards or just stack ur armies. in esc a cont is important for the time up to cashes bein worth about 12 but after that they aren't needed. on classic i always go for SA or oz. if i can't get them i stack my armies regardless of game type.

You CAN regrow in no cards, too, in one game I got my first continent bonus in round 67 I think. Until then it had been deploying 3 armies and waiting.

that is a slightly extreme circumstance. at a guess no1 wanted to eliminate u as it would leave them open? non cards is notorious for leaving some big standoffs.

in no card games, my main goal is just to expand as big as possible so then i can get huge continent bonuses before the others have a chance

109 games and a 944 score? Great strategy

Tactics vary on the type (no cards, flat rate, esc.), funny thing though. I often times find myself weaker in no cards (and am not eliminated - since there are no cards to gain), and then have to rebuild, where with esc. I'm usually too strong to eliminate soon, and I try to align myself so that I can take out the next guy when the opportunity presents itself.

In no cards games, I generally attack the strongest player, unless it could result in my immediate elimination.

This actually happens in no cards games more than I care for.
