Sweeping generalizations like this only set you up for pain. It is interesting that with the thousands of new players that have arrived since I joined a year ago, this is the first time I have seen this comment. I regularly welcome new players and make good friends to add to my ever growing list of fun folks to play with. Perhaps we are all asses and smply engage in the herding instinct? Hmmmmmm

Now that THAT is off my chest....snowdood...the one question I have not seen answered......did you and frimmers communicate via pm in generating this agreement? Or did you silently both simply stop attacking and mutually move......? Big difference.....the PM'ing outside of game chat to discuss the game is a SECRET ALLIANCE...SECRET as the other players are not aware of your PM. Anyone that PM's me in a game re: anything regarding that game gets the PM posted in chat and a complimentary kamikazee attack. Play with honor; find some friends; dont DIS the site that so many thousands of us love. It is possible to redeem yourself....or you could continue being an ass.....we shall see what your character consists of, eh?

Nobunaga....I have truly missed you!! Are you back to stay? Planning on playing?? PM Me!!!!!!!!!!

It is very clear from all the discussion that the ONLY place to announce alliances and treaties is via game chat. If not all viewers of the game are aware of the agreement, it was done in secret. That is rather difficult to show if it is not declared in game chat for later viewers to review...

I'm bored of this now. Anyone who wants to add me to their ignore list, is cool with me. Anyone who wants to continue argueing about it like it's the biggest scandal since Watergate, should go get their latest download of internet girlfriend version 7.3, and play quietly. No offence to anyone who has posted a factual and non-insulting comment which a lot of you have so well done.

Frimmers is not going to answer your question because he still hasn't admitted to the secret alliance. Never happened, according to him.

Wow,
Snoboarder, because your new, it's okay that you didn't know, though next time, I'm sure you know not to do it that way, it's good to ask, but I never saw the 1st thread so I wouldn't know about what the anwsers were.

Frimmers, you should of known better, and the fact that your denining it shows that you probably knew about it.

Doesn't matter where the truce is or how long or whatever. It should be announced to everyone else playing the game. So, yeah, you guys broke the rules. Perhaps it is a mistake and innocent... who knows?

You are saying that you made a secret alliance with him without realizing it was against the rules but he's saying that there was no alliance at all. Since the two of you have different stories, that makes the whole thing suspect.

It's not that clearcut sometimes.

Sometimes players cooperate without NEEDING TO SAY A WORD AT ALL.

Consider for example, that two neighbouring players can both see they are in danger of being wiped out by a superpower. They therefore don't pay much attention to their borders to each other and concentrate on defending themselves against the dominant player. They don't need to say anything, because they count on the other player understanding and not attacking him. Later on one of these players gets lucky, cashes in a card and then eliminates the neighbour through another border, especially after the threat of the dominant player has scaled back somewhat.

Theoretically, you would argue that this is a "secret alliance" because the cooperation is partial, and no matter how limited it is, it was not declared. Therefore this is against the rules? There is a line somewhere.

Sometimes, it is a matter of implication. You can communicate a need without needing to say it in the game chat. Sometimes, this communication can only be understood if you place themselves in their shoes. Other players may not realise that there is some mutual cooperation going on, so in fact, they never get this implied communication.

Would then this be a "secret alliance"? For it was never declared in the chat!

I of course agree with your position but I warn you it is dangerous to talk in such absolute terms. Cooperation, truce and allliance can sometimes exist - with a sort of "implied" communcation as subtle as pheromones - without the need for chat.

no of course not...if you have not spoken of it and you do not have extremely good telepathy...not attacking a border is your option...it happens all the time...in the elite games..it looks like there are five treaties at any given time even if a word is not spoken...

however here...i dont think a assumed treaty existed...there was a treaty between central and venezuela that had to be spoken of or there would not have been the post...

however...i can tame my responses here if you think i should...ill edit them a bit...

Nobunaga thank you for understanding.
Koolbak when I say members that ruin others experience's I am not talking about the ones who have given me a decent answer, but more of the people who just start name calling. I completely understand what I must do now if I am to make a deal with an opponent. And also to answer your question Koolbak, yes me and Frimmers did make a deal that was not announced over the chat dialogue (pm). I am sorry if I have given anybody a bad impression. I do believe this is a great site, it just frustrates me when people do not answer the question and name call. Thank you everybody who did help in answering my question. Goodluck to all of you

Rules wrote: 2. No secret alliances.

Nous-irons, it is that clearcut.

As someone put it so nicely, "let your actions on the gameborad do the speaking".

In addition to what you say in the game chat, your actions on the board, while doing the speaking, can be seen by all players, and not by just the one who you possibly target your speaking to. Thus everyone has, in turn, a possibilty to respond, in a chat or with actions.

"Secret" means any way of communicating about the game so that not all players have equal possibility to see it. "Alliance" may be a word that gets easily misunderstood, as many people seem to think that discussing of an alliance via PM is ok as long as it's not agreed, and if it's not agreed, no need to announce anything at all.

So maybe the rule should be modified to better instruct not to discuss anything about the game outside the game.... ("2. No secret alliances - no private attempts to make agreements" ??? )

A perfect example of what I am talking about. Beastly the above quote does indeed make sense if you read carefully. Now please stay out of this thread if you are not going to help. My question has already been answered

Oh please stop arguing! I can hardly remember what this thread is about. It seems obvious that Frimmers is a cheater and I agree with those who give the new guy the benefit of the doubt. :x [-X =; :-$ Let's just end it at that without letting this get personal - go to flame wars if you want to hurl insults at each other - then it really would be amusing!

You're right though, the behavior of some people in this thread is far worse than anything you and I may or may not have done.

oh yeah...

you guys had a secret alliance..you are lying about it

we are calling you on it because we cheaters ruin the game

and there is no way to avoid making fun of such a funny thing...it is beyond belief to those of us who understand this game

at least snoboarder is fessing up, and clearly didnt think it was illegal or he would not have posted it

you are denying it , and asking him to drop it.....how many other games have you done this in...if you will cheat in one you will cheat in another ...if you will lie about it in one...you will lie about it in another

snoboarder is naive, but you are a lying cheater....correct me if im wrong

how did noone call me on this....read this and tell me what i have done wrong....i cant believe no one caught this...i just reread the whole thing and caught it....i was going to just edit it, but its just too good...especially considering my posts...i hereby flame myself....have fun with it

i believe my orginal line said we harrass cheaters bcuz cheaters ruin the game...my edit...was not well thought out
