What is your reaction when someone does this in chat?

Postby hideaway on Wed Mar 19, 2008 2:50 pm

Ok, so let's say you play a game and for whatever, a player takes control and it's clear he's going to win the game. Someone in chat says:

"hey, you shouldn't have done x because then y happened and allowed z to take control"

assume there is at least some grain of truth to what the player is saying even if it's somewhat debatable

I've come across all sorts of reactions when I personally do this, and the top three are listed below. Many times, I'm pointing something out because I'm frustrated that I ultimately lost, but when someone does it to me I'm ALWAYS appreciative of the feedback eventually. My most common reaction is #3.

I would bully some more, and just shout and scream if they didn't obey me.

Back to reality.. hmm...

I wouldn't give a crap, but if I lost the game I would probably rant.

I'm usually the one pointing out that someone else made a mistake...

This doesn't happen to me. Usually because I've dominated the board by this point.

Surprisingly, no-one has ever accused some-one else of letting me get control when I have.

I'm good at critisizing allies but I figure with anyone else its their choice. As for being critisized myself, i dont think it has ever happened. If it did though I would proberbly argue with them logically and longwindedly untill they gave up.

None of those have been my responses to such situations.

In a recent game I had a Sargent cuss me out in the game chat while declaring that I had just given the game away and PM me as well cussing me out even more... after I broke his huge bonus. It was a W 2.1 Fog game and as it turned out, breaking him did not give the game away to anyone, but extended it another twenty plus rounds. Which was plenty of time for this same Sargent to actually make a mistake in judgement that did give the game away. I didn't return his colorful language, but did quote him in the chat about winner.

Even with verbal barbs and tactical error... it was a great game.

btw...I've read your feedbacks Snorri1234 and you are merciless!

except in escalating, im hardly ever the one to throw the balance to someone else.... people may suggest it, and my reaction varies, but i actually get more complaints for keeping the game balanced, than I do unbalancing it
