General Strat.

Postby Quicksigns on Sun Mar 09, 2008 2:27 pm

I read The Art of War by Sun Tzu and some of my favorite advice was:

1. If it is not advantageous to attack, then don't.
2. If it is not advantageous to retreat, then don't.
3. In battle, there are not more than two methods
of attack--the direct and the indirect; yet these two
in combination give rise to an endless series of maneuvers.

good advice, im gonna add on tho with some of my own ;)

4. If your enemy is attacking your enemy, than your enemy is your friend
5. It is almost always advantageous to do a sneak attack
6. Try to know what your enemy has

Sun Tzu is great, those that I like are:

"The individualist without strategy who takes opponents lightly will inevitably become a captive."

"Those who are skilled in attack, their opponents do not know where to defend. Those skilled in defence, their opponents do not know where to attack."

"If opponents are numerous, they can be made not to fight."

"A military force has no constant form (i.e no predictable strategy) just like water has no constant shape. The ability to gain victory by changing and adopting according to the opponent is called genius. (just like the flow of water is determined by the Earth)"

The last one is really useful for end game scenarios where you have to constantly respond to other players changing strategy. Otherwise you will never win.
