Does the ignore list also preempt personal messages?

Postby Larry Mal on Wed Feb 27, 2008 11:43 am

'Cuz this guy put me on his ignore list and I'm mystified as to why. I don't recall any conflict. I don't think there was any, because I'm a good-lookin' easy going guy and this other person has somehow managed to rack up greater negative than positive feedback messages.

But I'm just curious, you know? And it's not like he's good or anything, I suck at the moment and he's just as bad as me... so it wouldn't be because of points or anything.

I think he's just some sort of misanthropic internet character. It's probably for the best... this guy is well known for starting games and not showing up for them, or quitting in the middle. Anyway, there you have it.

um, PM him and ask him why. i had to PM a guy to be removed so i could get in a private game, had never played him before. he just dislikes my posting in the forum, so he put me on ignore. regardless, he was mature enough to let me in the game i was invited to, and then put me back on ignore. i don't care, it is his ignore list. i just appreciate that he was mature enough to let me into a game i was invited to play in. so, pm him if it bothers you that much. he may have put you on ignore preemptively to avoid another neg... you never know!-0

Hey I replied to your PM- like I said, I don't care if he did put me on the list- I just am curious as to why. My qualifications for the ignore list (I have no one on it) would be if they didn't play their game- which usually takes care of itself- or if they were some sort of racist, like the Nazi fetishists I've seen on this site*. I mean, what the hell is that...

But just because someone doesn't like something about you and the way you play or something... but I guess that's just the way of the world these days: the anonymity of the internet can really bring out the worst in people, since you can espouse views** that would never fly in the real world, or act out in other ways. So you don't attach much importance to it. And like deadbeats players, these sorts of problems really take care of themselves in time... I mean, if you can't conduct yourself on an internet site devoted to playing a simulated board game, you won't make it in other areas of life either, and aren't worth worrying about.

* There are only maybe two players I've seen with Nazi references, which is two too many, but there you have it. The other racists are out there as well, same as anywhere, which is a shame, because I, uh, don't like racists much and very much enjoy the international aspect of this site.

** I was going to devote this part of the post to mocking anyone who thinks that making a Nazi reference in a god damn board game character name would be cool, but I'm sure we all have an image of the sort of person who would do that, I'm sure it's an awful one, and I'm sure it's accurate. So hell with it. The hell with this post. Good luck everyone, play hard, and by all means take advatage of my inescapable losing streak to get some points off me, it can't last forever.

That's a fair question... I was at school working on 5 1/2 hours of sleep and a pot of coffee waiting for my next class and just free associating...

But let me sum it up:

1) I don't like Nazis.
2) I don't know why I'm on that guys ignore list.
3) Unless he's a Nazi.

I'm not saying he is or anything, it just seems suspicious. Damn suspicious.

I believe part of the new forum upgrade will mean that people won't get PM's from people on their ignore list. I don't like it personally, because it means you cannot email a guy and at least get a reason as to why.

My problem with the ignore list is what happens if you want to play in a Conquerclub Battle Royal, but you can't because you're on someone's list. I'm not going to go into who blocked me from playing, but I was none too pleased.

Man- I love wrestler1ump! God damn! You've been startling the chickens in their coops around here for some time- I know you do it on purpose too. I think I'm the only guy who hasn't put you on the ignore list- but I haven't played ya.

Set something up! Maybe we'll both find each other so repellent we'll put each other on the blacklist- like a couple of magnets and such.

You're a legend man- wrestler1ump.

And now y'all can see the trajectory from tired and cranky, to highly caffienated student, to drunk poster of bullshit on CC forums.

That's a wrap!

Did anyone answer his question... yes or no?
LOL

I thinks the answer we get from reading all that is;
"Yes... you can send people who have ignored you PM's, but soon you won't be able to."

Is that a good summary?

LOL

I also have found myself on a couple ignore lists... and I don't know why. It's one thing if I did something specific or have really terrible/weird play... but to be ignored without something blatant is annoying.

I have asked a couple people "why' via PM... but got no response. I wasn't sure if they got my PM's or not. I assumed they didn't. Though reading this make me think they did.

If I ask politely "why"... wouldn't it be polite to tell me?

I mean... I'm still fairly new here. Maybe I am doing something that people find offensive and/or annoying and I don't know I'm even doing it???

Just seems rude to 'ignore' someone for a non-obvious reason and then not explain.

Just MHO... :)

Really confused

Postby EmperorBrak on Thu Feb 28, 2008 8:29 pm

Why are you so upset by the person ignoring? Are they a close personal friend? I'm just really confused by the fret over the ignore. There are plenty of CC fish in the sea.

As far as the ignore to PM - I ignored 2 people that I reported for cheating in a game and the one continued to PM me....I think the idea is that if you ignore them you get to truly IGNORE them.

Lastly, as I play different people I look at their feedback (not regularly mind you) and who they've played and the responses they make to the feedback. If I'm seeing people with lots of negative and their responses to it are pretty simpleton or abusive then I just drop them in the ignore - why take the chance of having to deal abusive and crass people?

Just my 2 cents.

You are correct... don't get me wrong here. I'm not losing any sleep over this or anything. :)

Just more curious than anything else.

Mostly... if I haven't had any run-ins with the person... and if I don't have any negs... the "why" gets to me. Like I said... still being somewhat a "noob"... maybe I am doing something that is outside the etiquette of some CC norms. If so... I'd like to know so I can modify that if necessary and appropriate.

Make sense?

It's not the ignore thing that I care about. It's just that when I sent this person a PM asking why, and if it could be a misunderstanding or otherwise resolved, I would expect an answer.

You can be certain nothing I could have done would have been so terrible that I can't be spoken with about whatever this situation is.

As you'll recall, I was just asking if personal messages would still get through- and then I went nuts about Nazis, and then I got drunk, etc. But not as far as this person knows or anything, just me venting in the forums.

And truthfully I was just wondering what sort of person I was dealing with, since they put me on the ignore list for reasons I can't say to this minute. Now I suspect that this is not a person of any real caliber, and the ignore list is just part of that- this person after all has more negative comments than positive, and you've really got to be an asshole to make that happen. Frankly I was just wondering if this individual had received my messages asking for clarification.

And now I think he's just a douche.
