Fog of war?

I`m in a fog of war game (probably my 4th or 5th) when some noob starts announcing the troop build up I have on a border with him to other players. Is this considered fair or would anyone else be as pissed as I am?

It isn't against the rules to give away position in a Fog of War game, though as always feel free to add the user to your ignore list. Perhaps leave them negative feedback if you feel it warrants it. I see it as certain situations/times as it being alright, it all depends on the context of how it happened.

Thanks for the feedback Andy but I respectfully have to disagree with that reply of yours. If I wanted my strategy revealed at all times, I would just join regular games. I thought fog of war was created to make other players think a little differently about where to deploy, attack and fortify. When some bloak noob comes in and starts announcing numbers, to me, it is no longer fog of war. If this is common practice, then I guess I`ll just have to play regular games from now on. I kind of miss the good ol` days when this site had about 100 players.

Feel free to leave negative feedback, as mentioned. It's all a part of strategy, and if you do not like the way a user plays the game, that is what feedback/ignore list is for!

(I see we joined around the same time) And if this site hovered around only 100 players...it would be a sad-sack of a site...that probably wouldn't exist at this moment.

I must say that announcing a players position with out decent reason , is not cool at all.
I can however see it as a good strategic move, if I am about to be eliminated or want to distract players from another part of the board, that I am going to make a move on.
One must remember that players do not know if what the guy is saying is true, the only way the other players would know it, is if you acknowledge that the guy is correct.
I have seen many players use the chat to convey false info in a FOG game, and any experienced player would think twice b4 believing game chat in a FOG game.

I think its perfectly fine for a number of reasons.

1. They could be lying, so other players still have to believe them.

2. You could lie about it, making the other player look like the strong bad guy.

3. It's not that hard to tell from the game chat who has how many armies... and usually where they are (generally)

It has yet to be a common event in any fog game I've been a part of and if this noob's revealing chat has a big effect on the outcome...

can't see very many situations where it would be strategic to give up somone elses position because it give up part of yours as well, unless you believed the would win without much contest unless you alerted the other players to their strength, again a rare occurence as if someone's winning even in fog of war you can usualy tell. all in all pretty much pointless and just annoying to go shouting about position like that in a fog game

It's part of the game, IMO. I've never done it or had it done against me. Just announce that the guy is lying, I mean, who would know?

I can see some game chat cat fights springing up over this kinda thing, itd be fun to be on the outside of an arguement in a game just to take advantage of the chaos

that's why i stopped playing fog games. as soon as i had an advantage, my numbers/positions would be announced by whoever was about to get rolled over, and an unannounced alliance would ensue. if you say, "hey, red has a big buildup on the border of X, and is about to get another bonus if he gets one territory, just letting everyone know about it." everyone will move towards border X in an effort to get you. i no longer play fog.-0

In cases like this I always think "What would happen in a real war?". Absolutely sure people would be trying to spread information, or misinformation, if they thought they could gain even the slightest advantage with it.

Of course it's not that easy to fake because the game log may disprove any false claims.

I dont see anything wrong with what that player did. Sure I think that would suck if that happened to me, but I have have had to change my tactics when I play a fog game and find that since I have done that, I enjoy my games much more now.

If it bothers you that much, I would just leave feedback, but I also agree that acknowledging the build up only hurts you more. do nothing about it and go on with your game.

Not illegal and i would consider it bad form. I have in the past pointed this out to players who were giving away the position of a third player. I guess i don't think it is "in the spirit" of fog play.

It's all part of the game, diplomacy can be almost as mighty a tool as a sound strategy.

It is perfectly legal, but I do not consider it a fair tactic. And, yes, I would be as pissed about it as you are (or more).
I have not left a negative feedback, yet, but am quite happy to place offending player on my ignore list.

I'd ignore and leave negative feedback against any player who chose to act in that way.
