Hover over continents; greasemonkey: map inspect on

Postby dacey on Mon Dec 10, 2007 2:15 pm

I was told to move this from the Suggestions and Bug Reports category, so hopefully this is the right spot...

* Suggestion Idea: It would be really nice if the greasemonkey was edited so that when you hover over the name of a continent, it will show you what countries are in that continent.

* Why it is needed: On some maps I have a really really hard time figuring out which continents are where. For instance, Alexander's Empire has three continents that use similar colors, and since I am surprisingly unfamiliar with that area, its hard to decide which is which. It would be significantly easier if you could hover over the country name and have it highlight the countries in that continent.
I also know that for maps like Age of Might this wouldn't work because there would be too many possibilities.

I'm very unfamiliar with whatever scripts you would need to write this. Would it be too hard?

Try clicking on the Continent name...

Do I need an add on for this to work? Because with what I currently have it doesn't.

Where exactly are you clicking?

All of the Continent names work in the... Stats Table & Text Map.

Are you clicking on the legend in the map?

If so - that will never work... The XML has no knowledge of where the legend is... thus I have no knowledge of where each bit of the legend is... so I can't show any hovers etc...

The clickjumpers as mentioned above are the only way to do it...

Excellent, thank you. I didn't have the text map turned on, so I wasn't able to do that unless I was the one who had the continent (I play lots of fog of war).

Anyway, that def. helps. Thanks again!

For lack of better place, I'll tag on: the map inspect hover shows all border territories, but it doesn't diffentiate one-way attacks. So for example if your in Seige and hover on the Gate 2, it lights up the outer wall even though you can't attack them from Gate 2 (but the outerwall can attack Gate 2).

I find this very confusing... since the program uses color by player, I think you could have maybe a blinking feature for one way territories that can attack the territory you're hovering on, but that can't be attacked from that territory.

Also, I play both with and without BOB (Firefox / IE), and it has made absolutely no differnce in my win rate.

Yes - the hovers are not differentiated - however the "Map Inspect" details shown in the HUD or just below the map - do detail exactly what attacks are possible from that location.

Does that mean you can't make it blink or something for one way attacks.... maybe we don't read so well....

And on the original posters comments, you might be able to get at it by adding under the "unknown" any residual continents, that way you can inspect every continent, not just the ones that are held, particularly at the beginning of a game when you're on a strange map... I mean - if a continent has been captured, its more than likely you can figure out which territories comprise it.

No - making it blink won't work so well for the hovers... besides the info is already there on the Map Inspect area.

The Text map does that for you... you can click jump to any continent, country or player from the stats menu and the text map.
