Multiple Manual Placement Options

Postby j35t3r.us on Tue Oct 13, 2009 1:39 pm

Concise description:
  • Have initial placement for the Manual Deployment option last multiple turns.
  • Have normal Fog of War rules during placement.
  • Place 3 troops at a time during each of your initial deployment turn(s).

Specifics:
  • Instead of one big turn with a large deployment at the start of a Manual Deployment game, have your lump sum of troops divided between multiple turns for deployment. Perhaps 3 troops per turn? Or perhaps no more than 3 turns total??? The second option would require dividing your initial troops deployment by 3 and then having 3 turns of even deployments.
  • Treat placement the same as any other game on Conquer Club. If its fog of war, you're still able to see the surrounding territories of those you control. If its not fog of war, then you can see the whole board like normal.
  • Place 3 troops at a time during each of your initial deployment turns instead of all. Back to #1, this is a more classic style. Either all on one territory or spread out, doesn't matter imo.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • In war you're not going to BLINDLY place troops in your countries, you're going to place them where it matters. When your opponents start building up on your borders, you will too, its common strategy. This will not delay the game much more than then one turn of initial deployment already in place. <--- What's a couple more turns right?
  • Currently, there is super fog of war in Manual Deployment. You cannot see anyone, and cannot see anything in the combat log... At least enable basic fog of war info. To see how many they are placing, how many deployments they are making, etc etc.
  • This option needs some input from y'all. 3 turns total no matter how many troops you have??? Or should it be 3 troops placement every turn with no limit to the number of turns during initial placement? The first option would be better form larger games (but really doesn't matter since the more people there are the fewer troops you get). But the second option would be amazing in 2-3 player games and really makes you think about your initial placement.

Thoughts?

Smart players can just drop 1 each time, so you have no idea if you're about to face a pile of 23 or a string of 3s =)

Not that this isn't already done in FOW, but I figured I would point it out for you :)

If its already in place and already done in FoW games so be it. Why not implement it here?

Second, still does not affect my second point of knowing where your own troops were originally deployed. Even in FoW games you get to see where your initial troops were deployed.
