2 Passwords for Each Mod

Concise description:2 Passwords
  • 2 Passwords for Each Mod

Specifics:
  • 2 Passwords, so a mod can have a proper sitter in place and not have to rely on another mod to take up the slack.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • This will make being a mod a bit more appealing, while also allowing these players who are giving up their time to keep the sitters they already have and like.
  • This 2nd Password will keep the sitter out of any mod areas and or mod stuff. This sitter will just be allowed in as if the person was not a mod. So they will be able to take turns if the person is gonna miss. Such as in a team game.

I totally agree kinda like the administor of a building gets to set user lvls for all the computers this can be somewhat simular and have gone through situations where id rather be the one taking his or her turn in a game but relying on other mods to do it isnt working out too well.

Good idea, i know a few people have said they would not become a mod for this reason. It also disadvntages mods in important games like clan wars etc. e.g. nate missed a good few turns when we played L4D.

The real idea lack liked is "designated account sitters". Basically you could write the account sitter somewhere in your profile and they would have access to your games but not PMs or mod tools or forum posting or anything else.

He created a short list recently, and unfortunately designated account sitters got the least public support. Fortunately 2/6 are already done, and Battle Royales don't take much work on his part so hopefully this is added soon.

Thing is you have to designate someone as your sitter / sitters. For a person who is running short on time 1 day or 2 out of the year that idea makes little sense. Unless the account sitter is perm type of thing, where this person can sit whenever needed, such as a team game with 20 mins left. Also they would need access to your PM's to be able to join Tournament games.

This is what I would like, takes away almost all the risks with sitting while still being an efficient way to allow people to miss fewer turns.

IIRC the discussion that has been was having a setting where you could name one or more people as sitters (they would then be notified) and then an option of turning "sitting" on or off.

Allowing access to PM's isn't really that good though. I would rather get the extra "invites" tab and have tourney games go there.

Not all tournament games use invites, in fact many don't at all. With that said sitting is usually done when needed, such as when a person is running a bit late and needs someone to cover a few turns. The account sitting feature would not cover something like that unless it is a perm sitter.

That would be up to each player to decide. Someone in loads of games that needs a lot of help would probably use the option more than me who just needs the help a day or so per month.

And that is just what I mean, this person has to be around to turn it with that idea. How can they if they are not around.

Thats a valid point. Like more often than not the time i need a sitter is when im running late or when my net freaks out in a speed game. If there isnt a mod around then im screwed. I think having someone who can perm account sit might be an ok option but its well open for abuse. 2 passwords is good. But that would really annoy me after a while

well whats more annoying losing ur net or something comes up and u have no choice but to miss turns or just having a second pw layin around to give to someone maybe a pw that you dont even have to remember cause you will never use it just ur sitter...not saying its something you make and forget though but its not like ur typing it in every other time or anything.

Just leave it on indefinitely if you know you need help with your turns.

its more that i come and go from here all day. and entering 2 passwords everytime will add up to becoming real annoying. Im all for finding a solution to this though

why would you have to enter 2 passwords all the time? Its the sitter that you give that second pw to that would be typing it in, the pw that only gives certain privledges, so you yourself wouldnt be typing in that pw every time you leave to give yourself limited access to your account. So basically you make the pw you give it to your sitter to remember and write it down on a piece of paper incase you need to give it to someone else later, if your pw is a rediuclous one you cant remember lol.

edit--So basically what im saying is that you would never have to retype that pw again after making it up unless your giving it out to a sitter cause you would never have any other use for it. I dont see how that would be annoying really at all its strictly to limit other peoples access to your account.

oh I think I may have this mixed up
I though you meant each mod has 2 passwords. One to get into their account like normal. One to access the mod tools etc

i would leave it up to lack to come up with something that would work the best im not a mod so im not sure how difficult it would be to just have those tools eliminated completly by logging in with a different set pw or maybe you would have to have a different pw to access the tools im not an expert :-P. But I see your point if that was the case it would be quit annoying but maybe it would be something that needs to be done most pw's are saved in your browser so you dont have to retype them in.

saving pswds to browser is risky lol
i dont know enough about computers but I doubt it would work
I think a better way at looking this might be to head down the road of being able to set a permanent account sitter that can do it at anytime and make it so its not open for abuse.
ideas??
