Split scoreboards EDITED

Postby PLAYER57832 on Wed Sep 16, 2009 11:43 am

Concise description:
In addition to the current "one fits all" scoreboard, have "manual" and "automatic" subscores.

Specifics:
Regular scoreboard/rankings, etc would stay exactly as they are. However, there would be sub-categories listing the rankings for JUST manual games, JUST Sequential games.
Ideally, there should be a freestyle and Sequential also. (either 2 or 4 -- Manual Seq/Auto Seq/Manual Freestyle/Auto Freestyle

EDIT: If, as has been said below, recalculating the scores for a new (additional) scoreboard would not be possible, then I suggest starting new scoreboards for the sub-categories. The old scoreboard and scores would stay exactly the same, as above, but new scoreboards would be started from scratch

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
[list]
I realize that the list of individual scoreboards could become endless. Ideally, of course, you would have a "map rank" type score for each map, but that would be just far too weighty and complicated (take up too much server space).

I have always wanted to see seperate Sequential and Freestyle scores. However, while I like the manual mode, it adds such a different perspective, such a complete change from standard strategy that combining it with the regular scores will take away from any sense of proportion at all in the scores. Seperating them is necessary if the scoreboard is to mean much of anything at all.

Map rank (though not available to everyone now) does this for maps, so I believe it should be possible to sort by type as well.

EDIT: Apparently, it is NOT possible to subdivide the old scores. If not, then I suggest starting new scoreboards (in addition to the current one -- NOT suggesting that be deleted!). Granted, it would be nicer to be able to include the old scores. Initially, the new scores won't mean all that much, but in time, they will. And, because the old scores will still be used just as they are now, it won't take anything away. This will just add more.

The problem is that everyone's score is calculated on ALL the game types, so the data would be horribly skewed.

that's not a problem, just a recalculation.
I think that could be done in no an hour at most.
I would also believe it if it was done in 1 minute.

anyway, I totally want this suggestion done :D

So. You think it would be easy for the site to calculate everyone's score based on the criteria selected on the scoreboard?

Let's use some exaggerations here. Assume I have a 2000 score and I've never played a game of freestyle. Right now, if my next game is freestyle, my score change is calculated on that 2000 score, not a 1000 score.

Thus, you'll NEVER be able to get the calculation desired in the OP. It will be skewed.

Sorry, but it is pretty simple. All you would do is set a parameter to select ONLY those scores that are manual and then ONLY those that are Automatic (all but a few plaed today). The regular score would stay just as it is. IF you have not played Manual, you would have a 0 score there... or perhaps a baseline of 1000, like in the current score.

Your rank would be based on the overall score. The other would be just for information, though I am sure people will fill in their own rank designations. (you might be a private in Manual and Brigadier in Automatic or vice-versa, but your rank would be just as it is now).

nah, you just set everybody's score on 1000 in all categories
and put all games in those 4 categories.
then you take game 1, put it in the correct category, and add 20 points per loser to the winner.
you just start all over.

for a computer, that's so ultra-easy

I think, your are wrong, KP.

I discussed this issue with chipv, when he introduced his map-rank score-boards, and I suggested the same thing.

According to him, it is virtually impossible to re-calculate the scores in the way you described. If I recall correctly, the main problems were missing logs & Terminator games.

Anyway. According to chipv, the introduction of such a separate score system would basically require a complete score reset. Everybody starting at 0 again.

If this is a serious problem, then the new scoreboards could start "from scratch". This would not replace the old scores anyway. It would be nice to be able to include the old scores (or even scores back to a certain date), but if not possible, starting from scratch would be a second choice.

That is, you would have the regular score, upon which all ranks, etc. are based now. It would NOT be replaced. These other scores would just be added in. Initially, the ranks would be all screwy, but eventually, it should work out.'
