add a third Play Order option: "limited freestyle"

Concise description:

Right now, play order options are "Sequential" or "Freestyle". I propose a 3rd option
called "Limited Freestyle".

Specifics:

Once you start your turn, all other players are forced out from taking their turns, until
you are completed.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:

I despise and avoid the regular freestyle, because you have players who lurk waiting for you to take your turn, then
jump all over you. Sucks beyond belief. I'm sure there are many who feel the same way.

However, I like the random play order aspect to it, and the quickness to it. So my suggestion allows players like
myself to participate in a freestyle type game for variety.....otherwise its all sequential - all the time.

Those who like the openness and simultaneous play of Freestyle - well, continue with that option. Others that don't can choose this 'Limited Freestyle' for a more controlled, and in my view, fairer game experience.

Players would not have a full 24 hours to make a move. Although, in freestyle play, you can feasibly only have 12 hours to move...

This sounds like it will be a feature that deliberately pro-longs games. Starting your turn with 1 hour left, with other people who have yet to play, effectively makes them miss their turn, which I am not sure is a good thing.

The problem is some people may never get a chance to take their turn and before they know it they'll be eliminated. I can't see a system being implemented that will discourage lots of customers.

the only way to combat this is to make the last hour or the 24 hr period a free for all. Normal freestyle rules apply during the last hour, so nobody gets squeezed out as a tactic. Limited freestyle during the first 23 hours.

Wouldn't it be easier to apply the normal seq.-rule, that when a turn is taken the 24 hour / 5 minute period is renewed?

To get around the last-hour loophole, if somebody starts within the last hour, 1 hour is added to the clock.

From what I remember, Lack is usually in favor of Options---provided those options don't overlap very much. Two very similar options probably won't make it in his eyes.

It's not a problem of the names overlapping too much, but the styles themselves.

For example, you could imagine a gametype between chained and adjacent where you are allowed to make a chained reinforcement, but it can only go across two countries. So it's really like a double adjacent fortification. While this would indeed be a new style of reinforcement, it is not distinct enough from adjacent or chained to warrant it being added.

So if you want to have a limited freestyle game you need to make sure it is distinct enough from both sequential and freestyle. And to warrant a double turns allowed game you have to justify why it is different from the freestyle we have now. (Note, the styles would have to be both distinct AND deemed a positive addition to the site).

Although my casual freestyle play is limited-- when I do play that's the fun or 'rush' of freestyle. Planning your kills with the expectation that anyone could begin their turn and counter yours. I haven't pulled up your freestyle games but this sounds like a whine from someone getting pwned when trying to play the game style. Let's take all the advantages of freestyle but when it inconveniences you-- change it !

Learn to plan your attack routes and kills in advance before you click the begin turn button. Terrible idea.

Isn't the forum post 'ADD a play order format'. Play the original freestyle all you want - knock yourself out. I don't like it, and I'm sure there's many others who don't either in the current format because of the vultures.

Basically this suggestion creates a sped up form of sequential games. Since you are not restricted to a particular turn order, each round lasts only 24 hours which would make games faster. Additionally you get some new strategies, because in freestyle games you have to choose when to take your turn. This especially changes the escalating games because you are able to plot different eliminations. As Scott said, the big difference is there would be no "rush" of trying to finish a kill before that person logs on and cashes their set, or other situations which really make freestyle unique.
