We should have a warning message for users entering live chat perhaps:
"Live Chat is not moderated and may contain profane language."

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
Our family-friendly site, which is full of kids, won't accidentally stumble into live chat without realizing that people will be telling them that they suck dick and so does their mom.

how do you know this person was under 18? if you are offended by what occurred, you can put up a thread in the C&A and have the situation taken care of... good luck with this...-0

whoa whoa, I don't know if he was under 18, and I am not reporting a user. I am only saying if this is the kind of thing that goes on in Live Chat then fine, I don't care, I'm not offended, but perhaps we should warn people before joining Live Chat, so that some little kid doesn't accidentally wander into that chat.

ahhhh, i see... well, seeing as how this is a family friendly site, i doubt this sort of thing is tolerated in live chat. i have certainly never seen anyone being "blue", be allowed to do so without a hasty exit via a mod ban. anyway, sorry i misunderstood your post... good luck!-0

This is just pathetic.
Most people don't even go on Live Chat. And there's been way worse things than that on there.

So then you would agree there needs to be some sort of warning message, perhaps saying "Live chat is not moderated and might contain profane language."?

Nope.
Leave it the way it is.

Jeez man, you aren't very good at these discussions are you? A suggestion is made, then you support your side with information.

So, why is it you do not think we should have a warning message for our younger users?

Because parents should know that the internet is not safe.

It is not CC's responsibility to look after children. I have seen countless posts by admins and mods, over the years, that support this view.

That is why Live Chat should not have a warning. The children are going to grow up in kinky, profanity-loving humans anyway. I don't think you realise the things children, even at the age of 7, know.

Yes, I know they know a lot, and the warning isn't so much there to make them go away, because I don't know a kid in the world who is going to see a warning that there might be profanity and then choose not to go there. It's more to show that this is not something CC supports, but rather CC just doesn't have the capabilities to monitor it as often as they would need to.

live chat is moderated isnt it? just not 24/7, if a mod were there, im sure it would have been handled quickly....

but i agree with everyone else, the internet is a bad place for kids. especially chat rooms. i cannot think of any single chat room that i would think appropriate for my kids...

#1. I do know what 7 year olds know.

#2 "Knowing" and seeing it used, getting the impression that this language is therefore OK, are 2 different issues.

#3. I agree it is the parent's responsibility, however if live chat is the new Flame Wars, it should have a similar type warning. Some people just don't like "stumbling into" that stuff by accident.
