June 6th
  • free day of speed games (non premium players) to celebrate D Day on the D Day map

Specifics:
  • on June 6th

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • teach people history

I was actually thinking the same thing last week. I'm surprised no one mentioned it until now. It was a very important day in the World's history.

Then maybe someone should have suggested it several weeks BEFORE the holiday. The St. Patrick's day map was planned for a couple months.

I lived in Germany for six years, and we traveled extensively while we were there. We very much made every attempt to speak the native language of whichever country we were in at the time (in public anyway).

I tried running 'The Longest Day Speed Tournament' on June 6th 2009 to commemorate 65 years since the D-Day landings.

Unfortunately, there was not enough interest and the tournament was cancelled.

Admittedly, it was a bit short notice. I only posted the tournament 3 days before June 6th, and there were a lot of footie matches on that day.

Maybe not too many people are aware that 'The Longest Day' was THE film about the D-Day landings. If I'd have called it the 'Saving Private Ryan Tournament' instead, there might have been more response.

I was a combination computer programmer and Unix system administrator for the Air Force for 23 years. I retired in July of 2007 to become a schoolteacher (one low-paying job to another).

very nice
one respectable job to another
i think teachers should have better pay system
the shit teachers (of which i have had, sadly, many) should get even less pay, and my good teachers deserve more
i can personally say that over the course of a yeah i went from loving a subject to wishing its death and vice versa

A teacher can absolutely make a tremendous difference in how much the students' enjoy a given subject. Unfortunately, teachers tend to forget this the longer they're around (in my view).
