New Game type "Juggernaut"

Concise description:
Introduce a new game type "Juggernaut" where it is one player vs. everyone else.

Specifics:
  • One player is designated as the juggernaut. S/He always goes first and to win must eliminate everyone else
  • The juggernaut gets a double bonus troops for everything including spoils. If it is a 6-8 player game then s/he gets a triple bonus.
  • For the other players to win they must eliminate the juggernaut. Team work is a must

To be discussed:
  • If a player is eliminated before the juggernaut is defeated then should s/he still get points? Yes means that players have an incentive to sacrifice themselves for the win
  • Or should points be evenly divided between the surviving players? This gives players a reason to attack each other rather then the juggernaut (ie. fewer survivors means more points)
  • Who should be designated as the juggernaut? It could be the player who creates the game or just random

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Could be fun depending on the map

I almost like this idea, but it seems like when you have 7 people vs 1, even if the 1 gets 9 troops right off the bat and goes first, he's inevitably gonna go down, and VERY quickly. Whatever he does with those 9 troops, the other 7 get a combined total of 21 to work with. The juggernaut could never get and hold down a bonus of any sort.

I would think the most straightforward to look at this would be as a cross between team play on one side and individual play on the other (which might be how it would be most easily implemented). I have never played anything but singles, so I am not sure I am qualified to comment much, but if "team work is a must", then I would say the points should be calculated in a similar fashion. AgentSmith88's post in this topic suggests to me that a player being eliminated may still make a valuable contribution to the win for a team.

If the person creating the game becomes the juggernaut then s/he can decide how many opponents to face and how much of a challenge s/he wants. A 5 vs 1 with triple bonus might be easy but 7 vs 1 would be tough.

Another option is to use the formula:
Total number of troops = number of normal troops * (number of opponents * 0.5 + 1)
Thus vs 2 opponents the juggernaut gets a double bonus while vs 7 opponents s/he gets 3.5 bonus. The actual number would be truncated. Keep in mind that when the juggernaut cashes in a card set this is a huge bonus especially if it is escalating.

Maybe only flat rate spoils, that wouls solve that, but then again, the others would get an equal amount. I think the creator should be the juggernaut. They could also start with morre territories, or a continent.

Yes, I think picking the juggernaut at random would be a mistake. A player who might enjoy being part of a mob of corporals attacking a major might not like being one corporal against a team of corporals being led by a major.

This idea is similar in several respects to the Dominator - new gameplay variant suggestion. I think that one has some strengths over this one ... [But then I would think that ;)]

The idea for a "Dominator" game is different in that the player who is the dominator can change from one round to the next. With Juggernaut the player remains the same for the entire game.
The mechanics of this idea will make it work or fail. If the juggernaut is too powerful or if the other players are too powerful then the game will be pointless. Maybe extra bonus for territories and regions but not for cards. This idea would require some testing to see if it works.
