Languages one can read/write listing in profile

To have a place where people choose what languages they are literate in, in their profile.
  • You can choose multiple languages you can read & write it. Each time pick one, a new pull down window appears defaulting to non so that you can pick another one. This would be for bilingual people.
  • Each language listed, would be written in it's own language.
  • The request to choose a language would itself be in several languages.
  • You can choose partial knowledge of any language, under the full language, would be the equivalent of "I know some XXXX" in that language.
  • Picking a written language could be required, if you do not know how to read/write any language, illiterate would be a option. (it could possibly be default) Someone helping them sign up could help them pick this option if it is not default.
  • Possibly the persons native tongue could show by their name.

It would be nice to know if someone is silent because they are lazy with typing, or because they don't know your language.

If you know what language they read/write, and you know that language too, you can use it to communicate with them.

It would be a hell of alot more useful then choosing what country you are from.
(yes you might be able to guess from that, but many countries have multiple languages used by many people.)

Hmm ... interesting idea.

Not that this is necessarily makes a difference for or against the suggestion it is worth noting what the Official Conquer Club Rules have to say:

Rule #2: No secret diplomacy wrote:Any form of diplomatic discussion between opponents must be posted in the game chat in English or in a language that all opponents understand. Diplomacy includes, but is not limited to: proposing truces, negotiating alliances, and coordinating assaults. Secret diplomacy can be hard to prove, but if you suspect it you should leave the players in question appropriate ratings. If you feel certain about players engaging in secret diplomacy consider reporting them in the Cheating & Abuse Reports forum by posting a new topic.
[My emphasis added.]

Right, and I was aware of that. I figure if two or more people were planning on making a secret alliance, they would use IM(instant massager) or something else, rather then the game chat anyway. If you make a secret alliance in another language, all you need is a translator to prove that. But conversations using IM or what not, are untraceable.

So this idea shouldn't have any real impact on that.(Yes I know you weren't saying it would) Though it might be tough to know if to report it sometimes. Maybe a babelfish like manual translator could be integrated into the site?

To think of it though, what if as it is now you make an alliance in english in open chat, but not everyone there knows english, but you don't know they don't know english. The alliance would be secret from them, right? So one could unwittingly break the rules (ok the rules do state english, the spirit of rule then) Which makes the whole issue a bit hairy & fuzzy. (I couldn't resist the similarities in the metaphors :P) With this idea, at least you could be aware of that & if you don't speak english, the translator could let you know of any alliances.

Plus, perhaps a player simply doesn't communicate at all in the game-chat because of language problems. If that's the case, they may get a lot of "silent" tags and "uncooperative" tags simply because they're being misunderstood.

I dont think that will help too much...because if they dont know english they wont know how to put the languages they know(like they wont know how to put your age in the profile or if are a male/female,maybe they'll find by chance)

P.S.If they dont know english i supose they wont know the rules... :P

Many websites are translated in other countries, I've never logged onto CC while abroad, but many American based websites are translated into the country's language. You can also download software to translate websites. My point being that a cc player in Italian may see the cc website in Italian. I'd love to know if that's actually true for our friends across the globe!

Yes but he is not saying that... he says that we can write like a comment of ourselves that we put the languages

This one doesnt know, trust me just in British English (curious)

Have you tried? the translator are not much of trust...and sometimes you have to put imagination to understand what is saying

If you point like that...I would say better that we can choose our language, because I live in Spain, and i preffer to see it in english rather than spanish...if we do something for the language better like other pages do they put a flag somewhere and you choose the flag you want to see it in that language(if you click the italian flag youll see in italian, spain flag spanish....)but if we do someting like that will need human translators and not programmes that does that
