Change ratings

Concise description:
A simple suggestion for the current rating system. Since I saw a lot of complaints, and I myself complain a lot about the ratings, I figured they could be changed just a little bit before they get eliminated for good (hopefully). I that you should remove the ratings from people who have not been online or have not played a game for more than a month, just like they get removed from the scoreboard.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
We would avoid the bad ratings left by deadbeats and newbies who give you 1 star ratings and then leave the site. Their ratings shouldn't matter.
The whole ratings story could be a little bit more easier to handle, as there would definitely be less bad ratings given by people which opinion shouldn't matter on this site.

That's it. I didn't specify anything simply because I believe that this is a very simple suggestion, which shouldn't be hard to implement.

When I first started reading.. I disagreed.. but this is actually a decent addition to the system.

I think this is a neat idea. If someone is inactive, the ratings they've left don't count. It could be linked to the scoreboard. If someone is inactive (in games) for 30 days or more (or removed from the scoreboard for whatever reason), the ratings they had left, would be removed.

I could see it being a strain on the server, with new calculations of ratings happening much more often. Also, there's a slim chance that someone who is SO despicable that they drive everyone they play, away for good... well, maybe not such a chance.

I think that this can be automated relatively easily. Two things can be done:

1) block/limit ratings left by players with low games count (X games before a player can leave a rating)
2) Expire ratings from players that have gone idle or left the game completely.

Understand, this will remove good ratings too.

Yes, my point exactly.

I agree that the first thing can be done, but I don't think there's a need to limit new players. They already have the map limit, I think this could be too much. But maybe I'm wrong. And I also agree that it will remove good ratings as well, but IMO, if you really deserve good ratings, you have plenty of active people from which you can receive them. I read in a post, I think .44 said it, that the players who tend to leave bad ratings, eventually get sick of the site and leave. So that's why I suggested the removal after a period of time. Of course, you will always have those who will stick around, but you would have much less bad ratings to worry about.

Thanks for the support folks.

How about an automatic removal of ratings left by/for multis?

I'm not sure how the Multi-Banning process works, but I'd be in favor of removing all traces of a multi account from the site (forums, ratings, points, etc)

Well, if my suggestion passes, then this would be applied, since the multi would not be coming back anymore.
