another statistic on profile

Concise description:
  • have it say on profile how many foes the member has

Specifics:
  • on a players profile below "last visited" and above "total post" there would be "number of foes: x

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • another interesting fact about people

And this serves what purpose, exactly?

"another interesting fact about people" is hardly a good answer, especially after making other threads about Klobber. The vendetta is more annoying than owen and ronc.

It might well be an interesting statistic, but beyond curiosity what purpose would it serve?

If I'm about to join a game with a player it will affect the enjoyment of my game if the player misses a lot of turns - hence the attendance statistic on profiles.
If I'm about to join a game with a player it will affect the enjoyment of my game if the player doesn't observe 'farplay', doesn't play the game well ('gameplay') or has a poor 'attitude'is "rude" - hence the ratings and tags available on profiles.

I'm not convinced that knowing the number of entries on a player's foe list serves any similar purpose ... ?

I apologize Cicero, but you are fully aware that I am right. All of Fred's recent suggestions (the past 4-5?) have been directed at adversely affecting one person on this site and it's on the verge of pointless spamming.

I asked the same exact question that you did (almost verbatim), and yet I was told I'm either trolling or incapable of reading.

But if the question looks better coming from a mod, then I'll be on my way and won't come back.

Pretty please!

If there are important points to be made that are not directly related to the subject under discussion please don't post them here. PM each other if you choose to. Or if I can help please PM me. But please don't discuss the matter in a forum dedicated to Suggestions & Bug Reports.

Help me out here guys !!

About the suggestion:

I think it would only be related to seeing if someone doesn't like alot of people. It might be more interesting statistic to show how many people have the player AS a foe.

I don't think that Fred has explained why this is a good suggestion. There are tons of stats that could be added to the profile page. Every one of them requires a database query to populate each time it's viewed (or so). Posting how many friends/foes someone has (I noticed you did not included friends as well) serves only as a marginal curiosity metric, and one that I don't think serves for much of anything.

Some options would be though:

Showing Friends/Foes
Showing As Friend/As Foe
Make optional for the member to show this information

I just get the feeling that this is not a altruistic suggestion Fred, as you and some others have been spamming the Sugs/Bugs with Foe related sugs for a while now, but trying to treat the suggestion without bias, I'd state that it's doable, relatively simple to code, likely not too server intensive, but not really that beneficial to the overall community.

If you have more clarity on reasons why, I might be able to understand more why this metric would be beneficial past curiosity.

Here is a few good uses for this idea...

  • If you are looking for new clan members you will want to know such things
  • If you are looking for a friendly game you might not want to play someone who foes tons of people
  • This will also tell a good bit about a person's attitude. I do not generally like to play with assholes.

This statistic would be way off for me. I foed everyone one ramned's multis, all the cooks with less than 200 pts (who had to have gotten that low by deadbeating intentionally), people who intentionally teamkill, people who are banned, etc. So naturally I have a lot of foes... many of which no longer even play here.

there are hundreds of layers that abuse the foe list not just one

Actually, I only have a handful of individuals on my foe list, which is why these lame threads don't bother me. I only have very few individuals foed, but even if I did have a lot, so what?

As you have no access to my account, you have no way of knowing how many I may or may not have, and it's none of your business anyway. Any member besides me alone who claims to know how many I may or may not have, even a vague estimate, is a dirty liar.

Each and every one of the few people that I have on my foe list is there due to being less than a civilized human being, and we all know why the foe list is necessary for such types. Also, the CC staff has recently come out quite explicitly in general support of every member's right to put anyone he wants to put on there, and specifically in support of my right to do so.

You lose, big time -- end of discussion.

This thread is not about Klobber. He is allowed to foe whomever he wants. I do like the idea Fred, but I think some may want to keep their foe list private...

Fred, I'd like to see some more value in showing the # of foes someone has, else it's just a useless statistic that consumes system resources.

I was thinking something along the same line, but instead show what percent of other players that player has played against/with have marked him or her as foe. i.e. ExampleBob has played against/with 362 unique players. Of these, 12 have marked him as a foe. (maybe another six have marked him as a foe from the forum itself, but these are not figured in) ExampleBob's Foe-Percentage is 3.3%.

What this does is allows others to see if a player has made a significant number of enemies through their gameplay. Players that rack up a lot of foes from games played will have a higher foe-percentage and, thus, may make others reconsider playing against them. Or others could very easily ignore it. It's a counterpart, I guess, to the rating.

Because it would be easy to abuse when a player has few games played, perhaps this statistic could be suppressed until 20 unique opponents have been played.

The only real problem I have is that this can be misconstrued in many ways. Someone may decide to make foes of anyone they lose to, or anyone that spoke to them in game chat or anyone that offends them, or any other random list of possible reasons why. Just like ratings, everyone has their own method/reasons for "foe"ing people, so to derive some sort of analytical quotient based on what is effectively a random statistical metric is worse than meaningless, as it provide false "true data".

I keep asking Fred to give a reason why this would be useful, and all everyone states is basically it's to try to avoid playing with people that have "foe"d alot of people, but unless you've interacted with this person before, what is the real benefit, since you don't know why they foe people, or why people foe them?

Something I thought of when I was writing the above response also was if this is setup, how does someone "fix" themselves? If they are foeing lots of people, they can just unfoe them, but that then forces them to unfoe based on some arbitrary statistic, therefore making the foe system useless. If it's based on others foeing them, then they might get locked into a spot where they can't play with anyone on the site, or no one will play with them because they have too many people foeing them. Then they have to go around begging people to unfoe them so they can play?

Again, we really need to have a reason to implement this, and "curiosity" is not IMHO a real reason.

I may not know how many players have been deemed "less than civilized" by you, but I do know that I'm on your foe list. Quite frankly, I'm offended, and how "civilized" is it to go around offending people.
