SPAM! SPAM! SPAM!

Concise description:
  • Add "Spam" as an option in the "Report this Post" menu

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Seems like one of the most common forum guidelines that is broken.
  • Make reporting spam easier.
  • Makes it easier for the mods to organize and deal with spam reports because they do not have to read the details section to find out what the report is about

Total yes! Wait isn't spam an option under report?

Ironically, I made this suggestion so that I could report your posts, since they fall under neither the "flaming" or the "trolling" categories. And leaving a note is just troublesome.

*sailor looks to report but finds no category*
*Maybe he should make his own suggestion*
Ah well thanks NP glad to see the title didn't write a check that this thread couldn't cash, the thread indeed cashed the very large check

lol. Anyway, technically spam lies under the "Community Guidelines" so you can select that and just write "spam"
but I'd like to see the option anyway.

Thank you for the demonstration, sailorseal...

What would happen to a post marked as spam ?
This could lead to the troublesome marking-as-spam of pages and pages of relevant posts, and usually spam is marked anonymously on the internet...

Well that brings up the next issue, who moderates pages and pages of spam accusations?

Same thing as the option "flaming outside of flame wars"

Just will make it more convenient, especially for the mods. I would assume it is nicer to see "spam" in the report heading, rather than in the details.

Edit: looks like the title is working. Nice to see so many replies.

Take a look at youtube, when a video comment is marked as spam you have the option to view that comment. When it is marked as spam there is an option to un-mark it. So effectively, everybody moderates it :) The problem is that people will mark whole, legitimate threads as spam.

I was going to mention that :)

It's an instant hit, I'm not sure why I clicked it to be honest :? I guess I was hoping to sneak a peek at a spam riot before it was deleted...

Same people who moderate all the false accusations of Flaming, Trolling, Posts in the wrong forums.... either way, it is not like I am suggesting that we can report spam. I am suggesting that it take 4 less buttons to press to report it. (And make it more organized in the reports)

Good thinking, batman. Edit your original post and put it in so that the mods can take a look :)

Incidentally, why can I report my own posts ?

That is how these types of forums are programmed. If you are dumb enough to report yourself, I guess you had it coming for you, so why waste code to stop people from doing it?

I'll occasionally click "report post" on my own posts. I'm probably never going to actually report myself for anything, but it lets me know if anyone else has reported it yet.
