Flame Wars

Postby Rocketry on Mon Apr 06, 2009 1:02 pm

I'm not the first person to think of this but I thought it would be good to fill out the forum so it gets considered properly...

Description:
  • Flame Wars has been removed becuase it is unfriendly and time consuming. Fair enough. Some people however, liked it. There were a lot of posts there and it seems a shame to never be able to read then again... So, could Flame Wars not turn into a clan? FW would thus be hidden and CC's friendly atmosphere would be maintained. People who wanted to flame could just join and continue as before. It's the ultimate compromise. Everybody is happy.

We were also concerned about the unfriendly atmosphere this was generating for new people. I realise this will be an unpopular move with some of you, but I can assure you a lot of thought has gone into this.

Peace & Love will also be removed very shortly, that was fun while it lasted :P

Why would the statement in red be any different if flame wars was a clan/usergroup instead of a forum?

we could perhaps use The Tavernside fire to do this. It's already a usergroup.

Flame Wars disgusted me personally. But this is a good suggestion. Perhaps also include an age-limit to the clan requirement? (Not sure if that's something that would be good or not, but it seems appropriate to me.)

The way I see it, an age limit would be unworkable. How would anyone know you were actually the age you said?

people aren't always honest with their age, so setting an age limit would cause some problems...
there's already two clans (one social, one competitive) that's related to flame wars, so if you wanna flame just join it
if you feel that the environment here at CC is not suitable for flaming, then go somewhere else

I've already pretty much made my opinion known, I have flamed in Conquer Club since 2006, If conquer club wants it over, then it is over. good Luck with your quest, and if you do get it off the ground, then send your best 3 flamers over to P.O.A, to engage with us. Our Flame Division is going global, instead of in-fighting, it will be more about scrapping with other flame sites. ;)

This post has conveniently been ignored for lack of a good argument against it. Would like to bump it up to where the discussion is going on.

I have several question:

How would you keep underage children from getting into the user group?

Would you prevent anyone from cut and paste of post in the user group to forum outside the user group? How?

How would you prevent the moderators of the user group from bringing anyone or everyone into the user group, even without their permission?

I just don't see this happening guys. Flame Wars is gone, let's just move on with our lives. It's not worth it.

Ahem, excuse me, just what the hell are you saying? That we'll drag people into a user group against their will? That we'll prey on impressionable young members?

I think you need to back up a mile or two, and then some sunshine. We're not going to force anyone to do anything they don't want to, they can join or not as they wish. No one was forced into Flame Wars and they won't be forced into a user group for Flame Wars either. As for people copying and pasting material from the new user group, they will swiftly find themselves ejected from said user group if they're stirring up the hornets nest by posting offensive material outside the private forum. It might help in future if you engage your brain before opening your mouth.

As for this little doosey right here:

I was going to ignore this post, but as I'm replying to this thread now.....

So the reason the Admins got rid of Flame Wars was because the flames were spilling out of Flame Wars and into the other forums. Lets take a look at that shall we. What happened on 1st April 2009? Yes, that's right, the Admins pulled a prank: Welcome To Cutesy Club! Part of this prank was the removal of Flame Wars, to be replaced with Peace & Love as part of the 'new direction' for CC. Now what do you think happened when Flame Wars vanished? Yes, correct, the flaming spread into other forums in the absence of the designated flaming forum, Flame Wars.

So while the Admins "um'd" and "er'd" about whether or not to return Flame Wars the problem got steadily worse. Eventually they decided to announce what they were doing, they decided that the solution was to permanently remove Flame Wars as the flaming had spread into other forums.

So to recap, they presented the removal of Flame Wars as a solution to the problem, a problem that they themselves had created in the first place by removing Flame Wars. Erm, yes, good decision, well done.

You really don't have any idea what you're talking about. Do not post as if you know what the admins were doing/thinking and why they took the actions they did.

The bottom line is, Flame Wars is gone and these 'suggestions' will not bring it back in any way, shape or form simply because if you would've read the announcement that you seem to know so much about the logic behind, you'd understand why and that this thread is pretty much unnecessary.

So we can't even put FWs into a usergroup? You're just going to get rid of all the threads there?

Puff, the magic dragon,
lived by the sea
Puff was old and beaten
and could not see

Puff was tired of his flame
that sputtered and spat
Puff wanted no more false fame
so his flame went out as he spat

the last foul juices of his being

Bye puff

How many FLAME FORUMS have you encountered? Most sites worth visiting have an existing policy
that enforces zero tolerance with no exceptions.
