stop alliances in teamgames

Postby jesperrau on Fri Jan 30, 2009 4:43 am

  • stop alliances in teamgames

Specifics:
  • i have been playing a couple of teamgames now, where teams try to form alliances, i really dont get that in a teamgame ?? the worst case was in a game with fog of war, witch becomes pretty useless when other teams discuss openly what regions my team has.

i know that my view is just one of many, and we have discussed it in the gamechats several times, so im shure that we wont agree all of us here either.
but i would like to see what a poll will make of the problem, so please vote.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • if the vote turns out even i would like to propose a posibillity to create games that do, or do not alow alliances, that might also solve some of the big issues about secret alliances, because i dont mind alliances in singles games, and in my view an alliance isnt real if it isnt secret.
if we get this option in creating the game then players would know from the start that others might pull your strings :)

yeah because then it would be allowed, but those playing the game would also be aware of the possibility of a secret alliance. i dont think the total amount of alliances would increase cause it would still be the same players who would join alliance-games.
it would offcause still be against the rules to form alliances, (secret or nonsecret) in games where nonalliance option was checked

What about players that lose a team-mate during the course of play? Surely they should be allowed to ally with another player that's in the same predicament?

If you suspect secret diplomacy then report it. If they're being brazen about it then report it and foe them. This is just bad play, end of story. I find the prospect of two teams deliberately aiding and abetting each other in alternate games outrageous. So reporting such activity is the best you can do.

if i loose my teammate, then i fight on by myself, i know its allmost impossible to win with thoose ods, but thats the way games are won and lost.

yeah i could report, but then the conquer-team would have to spend more hours than they already do, looking for "cheaters" and im shure they have enough on there plates.. and i actually asked in the forum about revealing where my troops are in a FOW-game, and there doesnt seem to be an exact rule against it, but a lot of players stated that they thought it was poor strategy.

never the less, if this option is implemented, everybody could play the game as they like, and the conquer-team wouldnt have to spend loads of time looking for cheaters.

and for the record.. i hate alliances, but i just have to recognice that some players like it and then try to figure out a way to make this fun for everybody :)

sorry, its all part of the game... if you cant handle it, you just have to play team games head to head

its simply a natural part of any multi-player game..

negotiation is the way of life

Well that shouldn't stop you from forming a counter alliance with whatever team is left outside of the two team alliance(assuming an 8 players doubles game). But in a 6 players doubles the only reason it would ever be acceptable to form an alliance with another team is if the 3rd team was leading the game. Other than that it's just lame and you should check the "Cheap Tactics" box in their ratings page.

It is only my opinion, and i admire you putting effort into it, but you are calling it a problem, when it simply isnt one. You just dont like it. And i based my opinion on more than a couple of games

You just dont have enough experience to realize they are an intregal part of the game, and once youre used to it, youll see there is no other way to play it.

However, you can go to callouts, and set up games with other teams that agree not to have any form of alliances if you truly dislike it. There are even groups that specifically do not use any alliances in any of their games. You can also start your own clan called the "no alliance in multiple team game clan" if you want.

Theres three solutions for you. As far as changing the rules, or the way the game is being played by thousands of players, you probably wont have much luck. Im sorry i didnt think of the other options for you in the first place.

i just met some who didnt like it either, but probably not as many as you AAFitz, i just thougt i might do something to solve this "prob" for those who dosnt like it. but wery nice post with good options witch im shure gonna use. thanx..

and by the way ive played the game for many many years, just not here, and maybe i dont like the aliancething because it allways hits me ;) and besides the alliance games ive had very much fun here.

ps: i can tell you a litlle fun rule we added to the boardgame.. you know theres allways to blank cards in the box, we use thoose as A-bombs... you draw the cards like any other cards and when its your turn, you can drop the bomb on any desired country, and wipe it clean.. after that, in the reinforcements you can move your troops into that country, or the next player can if you dont have any countrys with borders up to the bombed country... that hold players from having a shitload of troops on a single country... very much fun :)
