It wouldn't automatically leave a 3,
when you started to leave a rating, 3/5 would be selected instead of nothing
My comment is in response to the bolded part above. Doesn't 'when you start to leave a rating' imply you are there with the intent to leave a rating? So it doesn't really matter what the default count is, you wont be lazy over a few clicks to leave a rating.
Well, the thing is some people might think that since it starts with no stars that means giving a player 3 stars means they're good players, when they're actually leaving the rating as average. If it starts with 3 stars filled, and that's the line for average, then even a new player that has never left a rank before will be likely to understand 3 stars means average, below means bad and mediocre, and above means good and excellent. Another possibility would be to do just that, instead of stars, put fields in that read "Mediocre, "Bad", "Average", "Good", "Excellent", and then show the average with the stars. Or leave the stars, just space them out a bit and put the previously mentioned tags above each one so the player knows what it means to place the star in a certain place. I've seen new players rate everyone the play with 3 stars and under because they don't really understand the system, so this would clear things out a bit.
