Map Movement XML

Concise description:
  • Create a new XML for script writers to access that allows calculation of map movement.

Specifics:
  • Use one tag per map which is a numerical number = total active games + total finished games for that map.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Map movement is extremely cumbersome at the moment and would be easier with a single XML.
  • Prevents multiple AJAX reqs to retrieve same information from the game finder results

Good idea chipv ^^
Chipv and I are working on a script that would create a historical chart from this xml. For such statistical purposes it would be necessary to retrieve the XML periodically (say once a day). I'll schedule a server script to get retrieve the XML.
This would require the XML to be available anonymously (without having to login), just as the Maps.xml.

Number of games isn't necessarily the best measure of map popularity... Is there any way we could combine it with a unique number of players measure or something?

I never mentioned popularity.

If you wanted we could add average number of players but the thread was about map movement as this is a stat without any contention.
Introducing elements to try and measure map popularity is likely to cause uproar with map makers in my experience.

You're right...

Is it possible to include stats so you can see the most frequently played 1v1s, 8 player games, freestyle, speed, etc? It would allow for a richer picture of map movement than simply the number of games played....
