Concise description:
  • The number of starting neutrals determine the number of starting territories for each player. In some 1v1 games, players start out with a number of territories exactly divisible by 3. When that happens, in most all cases the player going second will be starting out with at least one less army then the first one did.

    Some maps have so many territories that it really doesn't matter, but those games that players start with 12, 15, 18 & maybe 21 territories -gives a definite extra advantage to the person going first, one that could easily be avoided by increasing the number of neutral territories in the beginning by 2.

Specifics:
  • Seige! 1v1 games start with 20 neutrals and 18 territories for each player. In most games the 1st player will start off with 6 armies and the 2nd will start with 5 since only 1 territory needs to be taken. If the number of neutrals was 22 then each player would start with 17 territories and in most cases each player will initially start with 5 armies, since 3 territories would have to be taken.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Going 1st in a 1v1 game is usually desirable for a number of reasons especially for some maps and/or when getting lucky drops. This would provide some leveling out between going 1st & going 2nd.
  • I'm not sure exactly what maps this would apply to, but I think it should be considered with maps that start with 12, 15 and 18 territories per player.
