Suggestion about Fog of War

Postby Cdkutusu on Tue Jun 24, 2008 3:42 pm

Hello, I will keep it brief :) Unfortunately I couldn't check whole forum but checked this link, with suggestion list and couldn't find.

< viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2970 >

Anyway, my question and suggestion is, is it possible to change the code so that it will show the attacked land that turn (and lost, of course) to the one who lost it? Because right now its meaningless, a general should know which units are still alive and which lands are his, right? In a big map like World 2.1 its a big mess, and I for one, can't keep the track of armies.

Also, it would probably be complex (I have no idea about coding though) but I think it will be reasonable for players who has borders to the attacker and attacked (both of them, of course) can also see that new invasion. It makes sense, I guess.

Anyway, hope its not a really difficult thing to do and can be improved like this.

Hi Cdkutusu

Thanks for your post.

Although I am not sure what the effect that you describe as 'meaningless' is ...
A general/player right now [does know which units are still alive and which are his ... those are the ones on the map surely?

Whilst it may well be possible to change FoW as you describe that would make it easier in FoW to track other player movements and whilst it's hard on World 2.1 in FoW that's what makes it fun, I think.

Yes, thats of course the way, but I was talking about rather big maps like World 2.1, in which I for one can't keep track of my armies all the time :)

Why can't you keep track of YOUR armies??? They are right in front of you...
The only thing you do not see is opponents that are not right next to your territories.

a) And, if World 2.1 does not suit your game style/ability, play smaller maps.
b) If Fog of war doesn't suit you play 'sunny' maps.

There is already far to much information available on Fog of War games with all the BOB addendums (lol).
The very reason that we play Fog of War is because: we can not see all of the opponents armies/territories, and we need to adjust our tactics accordingly.

That is the main purpose of the Fog.

I enjoy Fog of War setting.

I am not saying something like that, I do play Fog of War maps, but I find it strange not to have the list of my lost lands in Game Log. I am the one who's been attacked, yet I don't see which land is it.

And yeah, I rarely join World 2.1, its too big for me :)

You may try and take a snapshot of your game at every turn (or every 2nd or 3rd turn) and then compare maps that you have saved, against the actual map you are playing.
That will show you all of the countries you have lost.
