Gender [Done]

Is there anyway we can get genders on our profiles? I hate it when people assume I'm a guy. Now that you're doing away with feedback it's not as big of a deal but it would be nice anyways. Just a thought! Thanks.

Girls on the internet? Impossible.

j/k...
It wouldn't help to have that info on your profile page, cause people don't ususally look at that page.
What would work the best is if you wore a pic of a girl (maybe you) as your avatar. Then people can figure it out more easily.

I find it funny ... particularly since my job description is "mom". I can instantly tell who has and hasn't read my profile.

I almost agree with this suggestion because it's quite annoying when I get called dude, guy, man etc. And avatar is so not helping

I agree, lets implement this, too many people refer to me as girl and chick, I wish there was some way for people to know I'm a guy.

If this were in use, I have a feeling that there will be a lot of gender confused men on this site that may be marking themselves as "female" just for the fun of it.

Why would you want anyone to know you're not a guy? That's the kind of information that's best kept to yourself.

It is plain to see that you are an 11 year old Puerto Rican girl

Well, except for three minor details: I'm 40, American, and male.

I agree with H2SY.
  • For whatever reason people will inaccurately represent their gender.
  • And of course there'll also be the need for a "not specifed" option.
  • People who don't read profiles and don't pick up big clues like "Mom" won't be reading the gender attribute anyway.
Overall I do think that the net result, of implementing this suggestion, would be that we'd be no more sure of a person's actual gender than we are now and the tendency to presume maleness would continue.

Off course, not. It is a blatant discrimination against aliens and self-aware computers that will eventually be joining this site in large numbers ;)

Guys,

While you are demonstrating your pre-pubescent fear of girl cooties with lame-flames, it's not acceptable.

Get this thread back on track, and quick.

And you may want to fix the flames pretty fast or there'll be some wrist slapping coming.

I support this idea because It would make it much easier to know who to net-stalk.

heh. It's nice to see the addition of medals has another added benifit. Your 1 gold medal gives an onlooker a basic idea of how little effort you put into achieving your rank.
