Im surprised that this hasnt already been suggested, but then I suck at using teh search button so it may well have been

Concise description:
Suggestion - "beginner" game for new users

Specifics:
1. website signs new recruit up to a "beginner" game upon registration
2. only new recruits signed up for "beginner" games
3. use a default game for "beginner" game - 3 player, classic, seq, flat?
4. allow new recruits to progress to public games after successful completion of "beginner" game

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
1. reduce the impact of new recruits deadbeating
2. allow new players to find their feet in game play against other new recruits

Limited amount of options may be a good idea - small choice of maps, casual or speed game

Not a good idea, since what if you are the 1 playing in a 4 player game as your beginner one and force to sit though the other 3 deadbeating do u think u would stay on the site?

This could be implemented as an auto-join for your first game. That would most likely ensure that it is people that are currently on the site. A few changes I would make to the options given would be:
Classic Map (the board that everyone knows and loves)
4 player (more people to talk to and would lessen the impact of people teaming up)
Standard (easiest game type to learn on, terminator and assassin are complex, and team games are not allowed for the first 5 games)
Sequential (a lot less complex than freestyle)
Escalating (this is the setting that most people use when they are playing a similar world conquest board game)
Unlimited (gives a chance to correct attacking mistakes)
"Sunny" (a lot easier for the first game than foggy)

you could make it a 24hour deadbeat policy for these games... or should i say, a 1 turn boot

I disagree. If someone deadbeats in a normal game, everybody just shruggs it off, but this way it might drive away new players. Also, they could be good at real risk and have just joined the site. (I won my first game against 7 expirienced people)

Yeah, yeah, I know. I was at 1100 then I deadbeated about 8 games when I went on vacation. But that's not the point. The question mark for new recruit actually means something.
