Diplomatic Status

Concise description:
  • To add a small box on the screen, all other players will be listed in this box with a 'diplomatic status' for each. This will show whether you are at war, at peace, in alliance, etc. with each other player.

Specifics:
  • The box will list all other players along with your current Diplomatic Status (DS) with them, and their DS with you (you cannot see other players DS with each other). You can only change the DS when it is your turn by selecting from a drop-down list next to each players name.

Off the top of my head possible DS values could be - 1. Alliance, 2.Peace , 3.Cordial, 4. Non-Aggression Pact, 5. Neutral, 6. Uneasy, 7. Hostile, 8. Border Skirmishes, 9. War.

The game would start with all DS values being Neutral.

To add a further slant to this there could be bonus penalties for breaking alliances or breaking peace without first changing your DS (e.g. -2 for breaking an alliance, -1 for shattering peace).

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • I think this would add an interesting Diplomatic aspect to the the game which at the moment is limited to the more talkative players. It would also make alliances and your relationship with other players much more important and would make the game a bit more than a simple dice-rolling and country grabbing exercise.

Why? If you have an alliance, you already have to announce it.  This would just crowd the board. Read the chat.
