Sell Real Versions of the maps in the Store

Specifics:
  • I think it would be cool if in the site store, you could buy ne of the cc maps, as real boardgames.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • It will bring in more money to the site, the more money, the more improvements they can make on the site.
  • It would spread the word about CC, if someone buys a board game of say WWII Western Front, and the people they play it with like it, they will probably join the site, and possibly become premium

I'm not sure what the copyright associations are, but i'm sure there's some way around it.

Example Monopoly is from Parker Brothers, and Cleveland in a Boss is made by Late for the Sky Production Company. They are both basically the same game but are made by different companys

The copyright only applies to the name, really. Unless they patented it... but in that case, even a slight change to the gameplay (which exists in every map) would make this legal.

I for one would buy a Feudal War board.

i am sure there would be issues with copyright if you sold boxed sets.

and they already sell the maps online, they are called t-shirts.

I think the main problem is - that the resolution of the maps are so small - that if you then blew them upto be big enough to play on - they they would look really rough.

Also - The mapmakers themselves hold the copyright of their images - and CC use them by agreement... so if you want a map that's used on CC turned into a Boardgame - you have to ask the original cartographer.

First, games usually have both copywrites and patents ... and usually multiples of each for each country. In this case, you would likely need them from both the map creators and CC ... possibly even permission from the original Risk copywrite and patent holders, though that does seem a stretch to me (ask a lawyer on that one!). Fuedal, Duck Hunt, etc are all pretty well removed from Risk in the creative sense.

I am not sure this would be all that lucrative.. the board game business is VERY competetive and VERY tightly controlled by a few small companies.

HOWEVER, this could be a very good thing for both CC and the cartographers. It would have to be a joint venture .... and ONLY for those truly original maps. (both CC could serve as a marketing platform to spin off some games.

As for the graphics ... well, all you have to do is blow them up, insert color ... etc. That would only be a problem for someone trying to print them off the site, not a new production.

The biggest problem would be finding a producer and someone to front the money to begin the whole venture....

Any volunteers?

just a points with s0ome maps it would be virtually impossible to play on some of the high amount of army maps purely downt o the amount of time taken per. turn
