Pre-game Chat

Concise description:
  • Allowing game-chat to happen with the players joined into a game (before it is full) - And possibly the tournament organiser if it is a tourney game!

Specifics:
  • Opening up either by the same mechanism or some slight other hack, the lines of communications between players in a game, before it has started. This will allow for several things. Firstly, easy for a Tourney Organiser to give information to players, especially if perhaps waiting on some non-prems to get a spot, or why a game is taking so long to start.
  • This could also be helpful in speed games, keeping people focused in the window and talking themselves up to get a psychological advantage at the start of the game.
  • I don't think it would be tons of extra work (although that all depends on how things are coded, obviously) but mostly already existing code could be adapted and filled to this need.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • More communication as said above. Could also be useful if someone's joined a team tourney game in the wrong spot, other players can tell them in the pre-game chat.
  • Other ways I'm sure I've not even thought about yet!

I think that would be a great idea, however I can only imagine the coding nightmares that it may bring.

I'm not sure that the benefits outweigh the cost, and I can think of many, many things on the site that seem much more useful to the site etc. that lackattack and staff should work on.

I dont think there would be problems.
Just have all the people that talk in the chat have grey colors (the setup that posts made by people not in a game use. no color)

Then, when everyone fills the game, everyone gets assigned colors and a [game begins] mark gets stuck in the game chat. From then on everyone has their color on their chat (like it is now)

We used to have this and I do miss it. So it's possible and I'd like to see it back!

Yeah, and I don't think it would be a coding nightmare at all.. I assume that games are created as soon as you start a game, rather than when they are filled... All it would mean is after joining a game, you could enter that game (although in an "unstarted" phase) and even look at the map, see connections, and start getting ideas in full game mode just with no territs assigned. Game chat could be in grey, as mentioned, and when the game is filled, the same things that now happen will happen.. i don't forsee this as being a massive code undertaking, and having a great benefit :) glad to have your support too wicked :D

So how do we know if this makes it into a to-do somewhere? There's not much more to develop... shame to have it fade away...
