Just a thought,
i find some avatars to be very amusing and they tell you about your opponent.

How about loading them in the game window. It would be cool to see them down the right next to players rank and user-name.

what do you CC fanatics think?

I don't think it''s that great of an idea, the avatars would probably cause another server overload and if not it cause people with a bad connection to lag like hell.

it shouldn't cause that much of a lag, there only thumbnail gifs and if they are stored on the client side they will load off your machine very quickly.
these no need to load them on every refresh anyway but what your saying is probably why there not on there yet.
thanks for the response, anyone else have a thought about this?

I'd rather not have avatars...many are just annoying. I like that the game screen isn't a headache (unless you're losing of course).

Ya, plus, where would you put them? Avatars are 100x100, which would make them 6 or 7 of them either longer or higher than some maps.

IMO it's an awesome idea.
It would also help you remember opponents better.

You could size them down, but right now, we have what, 20,000 actives but only about 1000 people with avatars.

That means that 19,000 people would be without avatars and a lot of them just aren't interested in having them.

although....it might be a good excuse to get people to come to the forum to add them and get them involved in community....hmmmmm.

It might work but if it happened it would we way way down on the list of things to do. I'll talk to Janiv the UI guy about it though....

Doesn't have to be...this is from another site I used to play on. Image

compared to ours:

There doesn't have to be that much difference.

I'm going to side with Andy on this one...

Maybe a poll would be interesting.

Clutter shmutter, it would be really cool.

When I signed up initially I thought "oh sweet, I get a personalized avatar in the game". I didn't realize it was just for the forums.

Also, if it was added I'm sure you'd have the option to "hide avatars" if you really didn't want them cluttering up your precious screen.

My avatar could probably survive shrinking. Not sure if everybody else's could, though. One option would be to allow for a separate, small avatar, but that would probably involve unnecessary use of the servers.

once you have a thumbnail image its quite easy to manipulate it to any size without loss of quality. I'm sure that the maker of a site of this high quality wouldn't have a problem making them smaller.
