New Recruit Games Area-Training

Newbies with no rank yet can join "New Recruit Only Games" in addition to public games.

I know all you are big tough guys and all, but it is rather intimidating for someone new to just jump in not knowing strategy, screwing up others strategy and getting yelled at, trying to figure out how to play and loosing alot of points to higher skilled players. I feel as a company looking for more premiums it should be a priority to focus on catering to the newcomers (not that you don't) by allowing them to go up against other
newcomers until they have a rank. Sort of a "Training Area" They should obviously still be able to join public games, it is not about limiting them, it is about getting them the best first experience to the site.

Benefits

New players benefit in a game where they are more equally matched.
New players can meet other new players and relate in chat much better.
Experienced players benefit from not as many deadbeats joining or new-recruits joining triples and not knowing how to play.
Conquerclub will make more money.
Friends won't feel as much need to make private games for their new friends and only take their points or vice versa.

This is needed to give the best possible experience to newcomers and launch them into premium quickly by a better first experience.

I did a search and couldn't find any suggestions on this specifically. It seems most suggestions about new recruits have been to limit them or punish, etc. That's bad for business. This would clear up some issues at the same time as providing a great option for new customers.
Thanks 8)

-problem-"it would only encourage cheats to make multi's and win big in new recruit games."
-answer- What goes around comes around. Maybe make no point exchange on new recruit only games. or not.

What about newbie deadbeats?

I reckon the games shouldn't count :-
a) towards 4 game limit (But a max of X newbie games should be allowed)
b) towards "first 5 games"
c) towards points.

Once you've played your first 5 proper games then you can't join anymore Newbie games.

I think you should still have a 4 game limit, newbie games included. That way current members are less tempted to create a new profile and go join every newbie game and mess with it and with the new players. But of course you will have cheats to some degree in everything. After first 5 games, any games, you are no longer allowed to join newbie games and are ranked. This reinforces the idea of there being a motivation to stay out of public games for a few games and more likely they will choose newbie games for their first 4 and cut down on deadbeats in serious premium player games. As for points, I don't have a preference. The big wigs will know best how to handle that.
What do you think?

I like the idea, but with reservations.

1. I would definitely limit the number of newbie games someone can join. You are only a newbie for 5 games. If a someone (starting premium, of course) wants to play 20 games right off, they should play mostly regular games and not dominate the newbie games.

2. I realize it can be intimidating to play experienced folks, but I have had many more problems -- not just deadbeating, but poor sportsmanship, poor play and general nastiness -- from new folks than experienced folks. Don't get me wrong, I am happy to play newbies, but I wonder if playing other newbies really gives them the best CC experience. I would rather see some sort of other limits on who can play newbies, such as no one with more than 20 negative feedback can play a newbie, etc.

I figure if you pay for premium you are past the 5 games anyway and not able to join newbie games.

Yes, a newcomer should only be allowed 4 games, no matter newbie games or public, this helps steer them to newbie games unless they already know what they are doing.

that would ruin most players first view of this site.
Joining a 6 player "noob game" and having 4 of your five opponents deadbeat would suck.

Good point

Thats a good point, public games would still be available from the start.
Younger newbies like my kid, would actually like that. Easy prey to start. Your point is valid though. You wouldn't want newbies just sent there, it would be a side option for sure. I personally liked just jumping into public games and loved the ruthlessness of it from the start. But I just saw so many complaints from people about newbies and I figure they are mostly kids not having a clue.

stupid pointless poll you added. next time if you want to make a reputable poll dont try to create a smart-arse bias poll.

poll

Yea I guess it is bias in the fact that it assumes voting against this option means you don't want newbies to have that option because they are easy points and the more the better. I am just bias I guess. Call me bias herndawg. Crap, that was being a smart-arse

Most n00bs are overwhelmed as it is by the set-up of the site. I don't think we should throw in another game variety (in addition to public, team, private, tournament, and speed) and another game limit. There would be too many things to keep track of for too short of time.

as wcaclimbing mentioned, playing other newbies will not necessarily give them a better experience at all. Most experienced players are more than willing to offer tips, help newer players who ask, in my experience. I myself (though not the best player by any means) have done so.

What about games that are limited to LOW rank individuals? This might be more what you are after. High -rank only games have been rejected, for good reason -- it just insulates them and makes upward movement harder, but the same would not apply to low rank only games.

The only real danger would be that some might pretend to be low rank, but that eihter means they are intentionally losing a bunch of games -- and either they keep losing or move up OR they are a multi .. and that is a whole other issue.
