MEMBER IGNORE LIST for FORUM?

MEMBER IGNORE LIST for FORUM?

I was just wondering if an IGNORE Function could be implemented in the Forums?

This could maybe be set Forum Wide, or a Member could Ignore others on just Specific Forums?

There is a group here that is most prolific in posting what matters little to me. Were I able to have a separate IGNORE LIST for the Forums, I wouldn't have to wade through all their "stuff" to get to what may be of interest to me.

The IGNORE FEATURE for Games has been GREAT! I've added over 20 members to it the list that I have not even played before(some of whom have never even played themselves.....). There are some members here that I would rather not play and would be relieved not to be exposed to their banter in the Forums.

Are there others here that feel the way I do?

It would ruin the flow of conversation to not know what somebody has said.

EDIT: Although perhaps not so much with some members...

Patroclus - I'm in that group. Don't tar everyone with the same brush. I've never had a go at you.

You will notice that I did not identify any specific group in this post.

If you wish to have a go at me, you are welcome to try in the Flame Forum. With what I have in mind, however, I may never even get to see what you post if this function were to be implemented.

My idea may be broadened so that Topics suggested by members you could have on your IGNORE list would not even be visible in certain Forums.

For myself, at least in the Flame Forum, their is an entire group where I could care less what they post. I would rather not be subjected to even seeing the Thread identified. I'm still not sure whether I would honor any of their thoughts in other serious Forums, either, as their collective and oftentimes singular contributions are vulgar or meaningless in most cases.

If the scion upset you that much why be cryptic about it?
Personally, I am amused by them and enjoy their self-rightous indignation.

Consequently, I voted no - I like things as they are.

The ignore list for games however is a great idea; deadbeats are as annoying as is4gays and a tool to aid in avoiding them is welcomed by me.

This is another feature coming with phpBB 3.0, the next version of our forum software. So it will have to wait until 3.0 is released, and I have no idea when that will be.

Wow, That is so cool! It will be worth the wait!

Thanks again, Lack, for all you do. I'm thinking these features will make Premium Membership worthy of a greater fee.

I have no idea what is involved in the application of these things, so all I can do is applaud the effort. I'm hoping the time consumption is at a minimum for some of this?

I think Lack's actually relying on the company behind the forums on this one, so all he has to do is click a box probably... (once the forum company updates its software).

phpbb 3.0

Postby Scarus on Sun Jul 23, 2006 9:36 am

Actually, phpbb 3.0 is already out in beta. That doesn't mean that the official release is going to come out tomorrow, but a least we know it's coming down the tubes.

Can't wait till it happens. 33 of the first 39 Threads in Flame Forum will disappear for me when it takes effect.

There is already a plug in that you can download if you are too stupid to just not click on topics that you wish to ignore.

Will you really be happy when all 'stache threads are gone? - the flame wars aren't happening, unless you're involved with a 'stache.

you will have full access to a forum tab where no one else is flaming.

Problem is the list of the crap that you guys post is too long. It is hard to find serious stuff.

When the new FIX is implemented there will be no problem for me, or others that do not wish to read you nonsense.

I dont think ignoring anyone.. I enjoy conflict.. I only have 1 person on ignore and I wouldnt add anyone to this. I think that adding people would just make some conversations very confusing.

See those squiggly things above your post Pati? Those are letters that have been combined into words and words that have been strung together into a sentence. This is Owls way of trying to convey a concept that may be of interest to you.

There is a Greasemonkey script called phpbb user hide that can do this for you. Just click on the little "x" next to a users name and it removes their avatar, content of their post, and sig. It does leave the shell of their post there and a toggle switch to show the contents if you so desire.

Thanks, Zip.

What I really wanted to do, though, was be able to have any THREAD made by some miscreant totally disappear from my moniter, and have any POST made by same disappear.

Even just having blank spaces left on a page would be irksome, and this is what these people have tried to do...., "Irk People Off".

Thanks again for your effort, though, Zip. What you supplied is new stuff to me and much appreciated.
