Tournament game type

So currently we have Terminator, Assassin, and Standard (and doubles and triples) I'm thinking about a new game type, "Tournament". It could very well be named something else, but here's how it'd go. It'd basically be like a standard in terms of gameplay, however points are awarded differently. You get points based off of not only your scores but also your placement in the game. This of course would not affect 3 player games, because getting 2nd on a 3 player game is pretty easy.
The breakdown of points would be something like this:
All the loser's scores are divided by the winners scores, multiplied by 20, and then added together. This number is then distributed amongst the players based on their rank. In a four player game, maybe first place would win 50% of the points in the pot created by the losers (so he gains points no matter what), 2nd place winning 40% BACK, and third place getting 10% BACK. Now, depending on the numbers, you could get third place or even 2nd place and still lose points. Sound confusing? It's not, i'll give an example:
4 player game:
1st place has 1000
2nd place has 1000
3rd place guy has 1000
4th place guy has 1000
Divide and multiply the scores:
2nd place: 1000/1000*20 = 20
3rd place is gonna equal 20 as will 4th place.
So that's three 20's. 20 plus 20 plus 20 equals 60.
Now distribute the 60 out based on place:
1st place (50%): 30
2nd place (40%): 24
3rd place (10%): 6
So, in this example, the 1st place guy gained 30 points (because he never "donated" to the pot that was divided) Second place gains 4 points (because he "donated" 20 of them), and 3rd place loses 14 points (20-6).
So... yeah. Hope that made sense. If not, what I'm trying to get at is a game type where the incentive is to stay alive as long as possible, as you can still get points for 2nd or even 3rd.
Does it sound like a good idea, bad idea, too confusing, or "We already have Terminator"?
