Player On-line indicator or Number of active games

Postby darthnihlus on Mon Nov 12, 2007 11:01 pm

I think an on-line indicator would be a very nice feature. This would let me know if an opponent is purposely delaying a turn.

Another feature would be value that indicates the number of active games the player is in. I hate joining a two player game only to find out my opponent is in 50+ active games! (Julia Gulia)

Note that if you scroll down to the bottom of the forum front page there is a list of "Who is online" ... you can always load the forum page and then do an edit|search in your browser for the opponent name.

As fars as the number of active games, just enter the opponents name in the game finder dialog and check the "active" option.

yes, this is not as convenient as what I'm sure you are envisioning but the information is available currently.

By the time I finish entering the opponents name the game I am considering is already gone. We need a quick view. Similar to the ranking and feedback. Some simply won't play against newbs or lower ranked players or take games against people with high negs feedback.

Not necessarily. For example, I'm "online" throughout the day, but can't take turns then since I'm at work. So telling you if someone's online only really tells you, well, that they're online. Just be careful what you do with that info, i.e. you can't leave feedback just because someone was online and didn't take a turn when you wanted them to.

You can make it so people can't see if you are online by going to my profile and telling it to hide your online status

I disagree. Why should an oppnent know if you are delaying? And ultimately what differnce would it make to know someone was delaying. If they knew that you knew they would just delay longer.
I think its' part of freestyle, if you dont like it play sequential.

Also a delaying player could simply log off and log on again when they want to play.

Also someone could have a lot of games open and be playing them. But your game is last on the list. Now you think he/she is delaying when they're not. Leading to you sending annoying PM's to other player and people getting pissed off with each other.

I've been in many games wher your only chance of survival is to play when the other guy is off-line. Delaying a turn is a perfectly acceptable tactic, it's not cheating and neither is it sneaky.

What about missing a turn and then playing 1 minute after the round increments? I've seen plenty players do that There are a few tricks that can be used, and often are used. I've never heard of anyone complain about delaying.
