entrenchment of a country

Postby rumgooma on Wed Nov 07, 2007 7:07 am

A version that I came up with years ago, playing the board game RISK, was to have the option of being able to get your armies the normal way that we are all used at the beggining of a turn. Or being able to cash in a certain amount of your owing armies to put an 'ENTRENCHMENT' card on a particular country. This enabled each army on that card to be able to fight with a plus 1 die roll. (while they where on it)
We also experimented with having capitals in each bonus area, this was the only place that your armies could spawn from. On your next turn you could move them. So, to add more realism and tactics, for instance if you spawned say 20 armies from China, you could move 5 to Mongolia, 5 to Taiwan, etc etc (example world 2.0). Or you could have the same option but be able to use them on the same turn. It would lead to some very interesting playing. And it creates a few interesting questions when it comes to team games. But nothing insurmountable.

Interesting idea, though not sure how lack would take it.
"Eh, whatever."

I am going to guess that lack will definitely NOT like entrenchment. Conquer Club already gets enough flak about the dice as is (with the code not even touching the dice rolls). Suddenly, lack's code will have to go in and adjust die rolls - that's just begging for more abusive posts about dice (and possibly a hack).

capitals

Yeh, fair enough. I don't know the IT side of things. I'm not really good at that (as you can see I have no Avatar, and don't know how) but adding more info as far as the capitals idea is concerned. It is like playing an unlimited adjacent game. All generating from the one or more locations. It would also lend an air of realism, think of it, armies generating from there capital cities and having to march off to different locations to help stave off an impending attack.
This type of game played in conjunction with fog would add a great deal of realism.

I do enjoy the optional rule where armies are placed at the end of the turn. Very strategic... As oto entrenchment, I think it would be a fun variant, bt much like the previous comment above, I am not sure how it would be implemented.
