Let's Help new players for once!

If we can actually reach out and help those new players we can lower deadbeating rates a little at the least! if everyone helps somehow, like say whenever they come up against a new recruit they can ask to be sure that player knows what they are doing or by answering any questions! but there is one way we can help them help themselves!

basically the "how to play" page in instructions should be expanded and given its own link seperate from instructions. you can expand it with more detailed directions, screenshots, and making it more visible. right now in order to see this first you have to go into instructions, then click on how to play. even then its just over a page's worth of words, and only words. there are people i know who will be turned off by that alone. people want to SEE something, an example of sorts. they want to get interested.

as for making it more visible, maybe a link can be made for new recruits above their games like the announcements that lack does every once and a while.

i believe that by reaching out, making the site more new user friendly, and not being so negative, we can greatly reduce amount of deadbeaters and increase our (already considerable) cache of fun, great to play with, players

importance 3-4

Funny pole choices

I agree that we all should be welcoming and helpful towards any new recruits we come accross. I am working on a welcome video for them right now and screencasts for the instructions page are a high priority.

another idea is to make some kinda walkthrough as they take their first 5 turns overall

Oh I have an idea. Like play against a comp in a scripted way to win? There can be a "trainer" that tells you what to do to proceed in the game chat (and don't let them do anything else). The dice will be predetermined to give the player a win, but have him play in different situations to get a hang of the game. Good idea?

that could work but takes a lot of effort to make i would assume and it could get a little boring too fast

Help the new recruits?

The biggest reason there are new recruit deadbeaters is because they join a game expecting it to be real time, and they find that there is a 24 hour turn time.

Make speed games for everyone and the problem of new recruits will lessened drastically.

Also, you can put a surrender button back into the game. Why this isn't there is beyond me.

This "we are the world" suggestion is laughable at best.

it has been said numerous times that surrender button would lead to heavy abuse by multis

So what if it does?

I thought the site routinely scanned for multis, or I guess that is bs...big shock.

Is there some sort of prize for having a higher ranking than someone else?

All I care about is what my score is. If you aren't going to change the 2 things I mentioned in this thread, this thread is pointless and nothing will change

My suggestions will increase everyone's enjoyment of this site. I'm certain that almost everyone here is more than happy to help out a new recruit if they have some questions, but they are leaving because of the reasons I mentioned above.

I like the idea of a screencast :) Or at the very least, a walk through with screenshots.
