Like the idea of a minimum - a maximum of 100 is already installed

the current maximum of 100 pts is a bit steep
it may deter higher score player to play with a lower score player

I agree with the minimum and the maximum, but i doubt that this will be implemented.

suggestion maximum losing score and minimum losing score

Postby wolfmaster on Tue Jun 12, 2007 3:39 am

i notice( or i fail to notice) that my suggestion is neither taken into consideration nor rejected,so i repost again.
this is a more detail version of what I am suggesting. They should be a minimum point lose and the maximum point lose should be lower down also. At the moment we do have a maximum point lose of 100pts ,which I feel is too steep.
this what I am suggesting
minmium 10 pts
maximum 50 pts

I used a example of a six player game as a base
player A 400 pts player B 800 pts player C 1200 pts
player D 1600 pts player E 2000 pts player F 2400 pts

If base on the current pts system (loser's score / winner's score) * 20, up to a maximum of 100 points from each opponent.

Code: Select all
player A win                    player B win
point lose by player B  40      point lose by player A  10
point lose by player C  60      point lose by player C  30
point lose by player D  80      point lose by player D  40
point lose by player E 100      point lose by player E  50
point lose by player F 100      point lose by player F  60
point gain by winner   380      point gain by winner    90
player C win                    player D win
point lose by player A   7      point lose by player A   5
point lose by player B  13      point lose by player B  10
point lose by player D  27      point lose by player C  15
point lose by player E  33      point lose by player E  25
point lose by player F  40      point lose by player F  30
point gain by winner   120      point gain by winner    85

player E win                    player F win
point lose by player A   4      point lose by player A   3
point lose by player B   8      point lose by player B   7
point lose by player C  12      point lose by player C  10
point lose by player D  16      point lose by player D  13
point lose by player F  24      point lose by player E  17
point gain by winner    64      point gain by winner    50

If base on the what i suggest (loser's score / winner's score) * 20, up to a maximum of 50 points and a minimum of 10 points from each opponent.

Code: Select all
player A win                    player B win
point lose by player B  40      point lose by player A  10
point lose by player C  50      point lose by player C  30
point lose by player D  50      point lose by player D  40
point lose by player E  50      point lose by player E  50
point lose by player F  50      point lose by player F  50
point gain by winner   240      point gain by winner   180

player C win                    player D win
point lose by player A  10      point lose by player A  10
point lose by player B  13      point lose by player B  10
point lose by player D  27      point lose by player C  15
point lose by player E  33      point lose by player E  25
point lose by player F  40      point lose by player F  30
point gain by winner   123      point gain by winner    90

player E win                    player F win
point lose by player A  10      point lose by player A  10
point lose by player B  10      point lose by player B  10
point lose by player C  12      point lose by player C  10
point lose by player D  16      point lose by player D  13
point lose by player F  24      point lose by player E  17
point gain by winner    72      point gain by winner    60

This is a few advantages that i could think of
-higher score player could defend their score longer
-higher score player maybe more willing to play with a lower score player
-if there is more active higher score player play with lower score player
we would have less wimping on higher score player do not want to play lower score player
-if there is more active higher score player play with lower score player
lower score player may taken the chance to improve their skill

PS. I enjoy playing with all player regardless of score

you are right to lessen the extremes.

But can you show me (now that you are into it) the difference between the current system and your proposal wrt how many lost games compensates one win?

For instance; now I have the feeling that you'll return to the same rankinglevel/score with 5 losses to one win.
Will this factor be more or less in your proposal ?

(depends on a variety of factors of course).
Take player C with 1200 points (middle score) as an example.

I agree with the maximum loss suggestion (well obviously i would  ). 100 points is too much to put on the line against any player no matter how hopeless. This is because the scoring system uses a hyperbolic rather than linear scale to distribute points - i.e. points won = x/y - which leads to explosive growth in the points distribution at the extremes that is disproportionate to the relative skills of the players.

On the other hand, I don't think a skilled player should get 10 points for beating a n00b with no idea. A minimum of 1 point for a win is fine with me.

(By the way this isn't lobbying to keep my score high - I've never lost more than 50 points in a loss so a change wouldn't really affect me much.)
2007-05-20 04:02:54 - gibbom won the game
2007-05-20 04:02:54 - gibbom gains 2252 points

Oddball this is request you ask for
at the moment the player is saturated(rough figure) as follows
above 2400---------60 player
2000-2400----------170 player
1600-2000----------730 player
1200-1600----------3060 player
800-1200-----------13580 player
400-800------------1140 player

the major pool of player would fall in 800-1600
if base on the old score system

Player score---Possible Min---Possible Max---Possible Min---Possible Max---Ratio of 1 win
------------------Score Win------score Win -----score lose-----score lose-----that Cover game lose
400------------100------------500------------3--------------20-------------5 to 167
800------------50-------------300------------7--------------40-------------1.25 to 42
1200-----------35-------------200------------10-------------60-------------0.58 to 20
1600-----------25-------------150------------13-------------80-------------0.31 to 11.53
2000-----------20-------------120------------17-------------100------------0.2 to 7.05
2400-----------15-------------100------------20-------------100------------0.15 to 5

if base on my suggest

Player score---Possible Min---Possible Max---Possible Min---Possible Max---Ratio of 1 win
---------------Score Win------score Win -----score lose-----score lose-----that Cover game lose
400-----100-----500-----10-----20-----5 to 25
800-----50-----300-----10-----40-----1.25 to 25
1200-----50-----200-----10-----50-----1 to 20
1600-----50-----150-----13-----50-----1 to 11.53
2000-----50-----120-----17-----50-----1 to 7.05
2400-----50-----100-----20-----50-----1 to 5

Using the old scoring system
odd ball you fall in range of 800-1200 which consist of the mayor pool of player, thus there is ratio of 1 victory could cover about 5 lost

i use gibbom as a reference of
gibbom is our conqueror at the moment
if he play with the major poll of player
his ratio is 5 victory to cover 1 lost

Using my suggestion
the ratio for you Oddball is petty much the same
1 victory could cover about 5 lost
but for gibbom his ratio is 1 victory to cover 1 lost
dont forget the ratio is base on a standard 6 player game
for other 2-5 player of game the ratio is smaller

btw gibbom you are correct, it seem unfair for a skill player to slice 10 pts from a noob ,dont you think while a noob is trying to pick up skill, they should as paid some price. Anyway the figure I just pluck out for reference, it not necessary to apply a 10pts lost.A lesser figure like 7pts could be use also

the stat as below
Player score---Possible Min---Possible Max---Possible Min---Possible Max---Ratio of 1 win
---------------Score Win------score Win -----score lose-----score lose-----that Cover game lose
400-----100-----500-----7-----20-----5 to 35.71
800-----50-----300-----7-----40-----1.25 to 35.71
1200-----35-----200-----10-----50-----0.7 to 20
1600-----35-----150-----13-----50-----0.7 to 11.53
2000-----35-----120-----17-----50-----0.7 to 7.06
2400-----35-----100-----20-----50-----0.7 to 5

a higher score player, would have a ratio of 3 win could cover 2 lose
the key point of my suggesting is to lower the maximum loss and some minimum winning to make higher score player spend some effort to play with lower score player.
let be frank here ,who would risk 100pts to exchange for a 5 pts gain

P.S Any doubt/question you could post a reply, i would try to explain to my best ability
