deadbeats in assassin games....

Not sure how much this has been discussed before, but I really don't like the current situation regarding deadbeats in assassin games. Under the current situation, let's say my target is "blue". Blue plays one or two turns, then goes deadbeat. I'm going after "blue" really hard, and have him almost dead, then the game boots him, and my target switches to "yellow", which was "blue's" target. Now, my armies were just in place for the killing blow against "blue", and now I have to go after yellow, and as if that wasn't hard enough, nobody's been attacking "yellow" for the last 3 turns, because blue is a worthless no good deadbeat pathetic excuse for a risk player, and probably a noob to top it all off.

There really is no good way to "fix" the problem, which is similar to having a deadbeat partner in a doubles game. Even under the current setup where I get his armies and cards, the 3 turns of worthlessness are usually enough to seal my coffin, and the extra armies and cards are somewhat like sealing me in the coffin with a flashlight and some magazines so I won't die bored....

Therefore, I propose the same rule that is currently in place for doubles, in that a player cannot play an assassin game if they are a noob, and they must get their first promotion first

In this game, I was originally slated to kill teal, who played 1 turn and went deadbeat. So, knowing that he's going to deadbeat, I either have to kill him in 4 rounds, which is practically impossible, or not figure out who my target is until 5 rounds into the game.

We already have them banned from team games, so must we ban them from Assassin to? Suck it up cupcake.

I see your point, that we've already banned them from team games, so it would suck to have to ban them from assassin too, but honestly, to get the first promotion, all you have to do is play a couple of games out. It's not like there's a point requirement.

Ask yourself WHY we banned noobs from team games. It was done because lots of people whined when their team lost because their noob partner went deadbeat. It takes away the fun from the game, because it's pretty tough to win a 4 player doubles game with a deadbeat partner... The admins got sick of people whining about it, and instituted a rule, which, for the most part, solves the problem with minimal inconvenience.

So why not institute the same rule for assassin games? Let's face it, having a deadbeat in those games both negatively affects the person who is trying to attack the deadbeat and positively affects the person the deadbeat is supposed to attack (because nobody is attacking them). This doesn't exactly make for the worlds fairest or most enjoyable game.

seriousally agree...

ime in an assasin game atm, i got a guy down to 1 territory with 1 army on it and then he gets elimed for deadbeating... atm ive got a second guy down to one territory and i just took my turn and hes missed 2 in a row so woohoo another chance to win down the drain due to DBs!

any player worth his salt in assassin games would recognize early when your target is going to deadbeat. if someone misses a turn, maybe you shouldnt go full force attacking them this round, hold on those armies, line them up, and wait. being a fool is no reason to change the rules.

I know you shouldn't restrict the rights of noobs too much. But you don't just wanna leave a guy alone because you think he is gonna deadbeat because if he doesn't your screwed. I think the rule should be implemented.

And that is exactly what I did. I thought that was a good strategy too when I realized my target would deadbeat but my new target had gone unchecked for 3 rounds and his target was almost gone. there really is no way to defend against a deadbeat in an assassin game.

going full out is what i did do, that was why both targets ended up with one territory left and then i get a new one to work on, wheeeeee

I've been playing assassin games recently, and I have to say that the newbie deadbeats really irk me. You can play around them somewhat, but a lot of the strategy is setting up near your target, and if your initial target is a deadbeat you don't even know who your target will be. Deadbeats just plain mess up assassin games worse than they do normal games - in a normal game everyone is affected more or less the same by a deadbeat, but in an assassin game just one player gets screwed.

As for whether it's unfair to require newbies to play 5 games before they can join assassin games, there are plenty of standard and terminator games they can play. Assassin is a bit harder than standard (imo), so most newbies shouldn't be playing assassin until they've gotten used to standard anyways.

Please, can we get this changed, or at least added to the to-do list?

After this game I support this. Assassin games are usually in lesser numbers than the standard and terminator ones already, and deadbeats make it unplayable. You can anticipate who your next target will be after a couple of rounds, but when it happens 2 times in a row...

As a (currently) non-sub I have to say that deadbeats are a real pain.

They clearly have no fun in their lives and thus want to stop other peoples enjoyment.

I have only played one assassin game and thoughly enjoyed it but I can see how having a deadbeat as a target would spoil the game for the DBs opponent. Others have a 3 round advantage.

Anything that can be done to remove deadbeats from games is a plus in my book and would encourage me to subscribe.

I would suggest that the 3 round limit on exclusion from assasin games is reduced to 1 round. ie. If you miss a second round your out.

I would also suggest that new subs with less than 10 completed games have a flag set which removes them from all games after one round. This would include assassin games. Thus if anyone misses a 2nd round in an assassin game they are out but if a new sub misses just one then it's goodnight and goodbye.

Setting a newbie flag where missing just one turn means out would stop those pesky blighters who sign up join 4 games and are never seen again.

I know this would mean a software re-write and may be difficult to impliment but given the size of the problem I feel it would be a worthwhile task. Comments please. (That do not include questions about my parentage or tackle size).

I play on a chess website and we have the same problem so I basically wont play new subs..........Like me on here!! :(

Amusingly of course - it does underline that it's also hard to win the same too...

I started targetting Pink.
Red started targetting Cyan.
I ended up targetting blue - and winning.

Perhaps if someone deadbeats in assassin, you get their target and the game moves on?

Not sure if that's what already happens, I've never had that happen to me (fortunately).

That is what happens, but it's still unfair because you don't know who their target was, so you can't set yourself up as well.
