Clear policy for post deletion

Suggestion Idea: Have clear policy in place to justify deletion of posts.

Description:

Explain the criteria for deleting posts

one of the all time high scores thread in general discussion was just deleted...it had thousands of views, many responses, and it was deleted when another one was started by a different player for a different reason

I was absolutely amazed it was deleted. So few posts are deleted. There are so many that are duplicated, triplicated, quadruplicated...etc.

Many go without many responses or only a handful, and seem to have no interest beyond that.

It seems that thread was deleted because the moderator that deleted it...and I have to assume which one did...disagreed with it.

There was nothing objectionable in the post, no profanity, no flaming, just an in depth discussion about the points, how they were won, who won the most etc...there were many interesting Ideas that got deleted in here, and I am absolutely astonished.

In the past Ive seen duplicate posts merged, but never just wiped out like this.

It would be helpful to understand the policy regarding deletion of posts, because I see it done almost never, and this one seems to be due to simply bias of one mod, which makes me question the fairness to a large degree.

Before I add anything to a discussion, I would like to know what the chances of it being deleted are, so I know if Im wasting my time

Priority: 1

 Im sure. I made sure I used the form, for that very reason...

And it would be so funny, you almost should have...
Maybe used deleted for fun as the reason...

should have gone for it...It may not seem it on this one, but I have a pretty good sense of humor. Im really not trying to be a jerk here...Im just a little confused and a little disapointed... :?

But I only deleted it because JR told me too. He made a new topic because the old one was full of spam or something, and he told me to delete the other thread. Is there something wrong with THAT?

If JR started the other thread, than this is my bad here...I thought Robinette started the other thread all along...so it seemed to me it was done for other reasons...If JR was referring to his own thread to be deleted, and his was essentially the same info...though the other one really did have some stuff in there, then that at least makes sense, and I would never have even mentioned it and you can delete every post I made concerning it if you want, including this one. If Robinette started the other one, then thats a little different.

Is there not a "recycle bin" for deleted threads...

I was a mod on an invision forum a while ago and that had a recycle bin for initially deleted threads...

Could the thread in question be revived?

C.

PS JR was saying "delete it" in sarcasm... something I know that AK knows about as many of his posts drip with it.

I still don't see the sarcasm. :?

I just don't see how you can take his word on it when other people said to delete the second thread.

When I looked at it in General Discussion, it showed JR as the author of the thread. So his permission should be the only one that mattered.

So if I made another thread about this topic, I could get this thread deleted by saying it should be deleted?

well my only concern was that a thread written by someone else was deleted, for the only reason that it was slightly repetitive...It really is different since JR wrote the other one...Im not sure authoring one should exactly entitle you to be able to delete them once other people have added to them, but at least it wasnt written by someone else...thats why I posted...I just couldnt understand it at all...there were a few similar threads...I thought the one by Robinette was deleted.

This really isnt as big a deal as I thought it was....and I do think JR was mostly joking...but if I knew it was JR's thread, I wouldnt have complained
