Less points for a freestyle win

I think there should be less points applied to a freestyle win. Maybe a multiplier of 3/4. Freestyle games are fun and what not but they are gamed so easily. Some players only play freestyle games with a select number of team mates who know how to game and work the system. So what their score actually reflects is how well they can play the CC system rather than how well a strategist they are.

I think this would reduce the amount of grey-area cheating that goes on in the freestyle games. Of course people can still play freestyle for the fun of it, but let's face it, it takes a different set of 'skills' to win at freestyle then it does sequential, so why should both skills sets be award the same amount of points, when one 'skill set' involved annoying and deceptive game play.

So what you’re saying (correct me if I’m wrong) is that since your subjective notion is that you don’t enjoy playing freestyle (or lack the skills) you believe that less points should be given out for winning those games.

That is bullshit.

Of course there are different skills involved between various settings. And of course the score reflects how good one are in the kind of games one usually plays. But starting to put different values into different settings is just bullshit.

Also: There is no “grey-area cheating” going on in freestyle games. CC only has two rules. As long as one doesn’t violate those rules, there’s no cheating going on. Again, you’re using your own subjective views as some kind of norm.

Additionally, mibi, I notice that you make a distiction between playing the CC system and playing the game that doesn't exist. Try getting better instead of complaining about players better than yourself.

i think he has a fair point. the system can easily be manipulated if you have the time and inclination to do so. this effectively gives advantage to the people who place more importance on CC in their lives than others. however i think its fair enough they have an advantage as i would want them to do better as they find it more important to their lives. good luck to those freestylers!

allow me to correct you then. I do enjoy playing freestyle, in fact if you look at the games i've played, its mostly freestyle. Why do i play freestyle? For two reasons, 1. I enjoy the quicker gameplay that doesnt drag out for weeks. and 2. If I game the system I have an advantage over those that don't. If i can refresh faster than another player, start my turn with a current bonus and break theirs all in the 5 seconds it takes them to realize it's their turn, then I have a considerable advantage. Often, this is how I will win a freestyle game, and take the other players points. But at the end am I really a better strategist? A more skilled player? Or am i just slightly more annoying, irritating, and better at exploiting the nooks and crannies of the freestyle gameplay?

The problem I have is that you can have a player who is a fantastic player and wins sequential games with strategy and skill and you have also have a player who wins freestyle games with more dodgy tactics than skill, yet with the CC system, both players could have an equal rank, when it is clear that both players are certainly not equal.

I've won over half of every freestyle game I've finished. And certainly not be being a better strategist.

Well. The ranking has nothing to do with being a better strategist or more skilled (besides, there are many types of skills in CC, how could one possibly say that one is better than another?). It is based on winning games. That’s it. It’s crude, but I don’t think a good solution would be to start to making distinctions between various types of settings. I floated an idea quite a long time ago about being able to break down the overall scoreboard into scoreboards for certain maps, double games, triples etc. etc. (Since the data is all there, what would be needed is a code to sort and distinguish the data.) Just to make it more fun for people, no one would be able to top all rankings, so everyone could play for their own personal targets.

But why state that different game styles are unequal in value? If you have a good freestyle player (which I am not), I wouldn’t say he’s a lesser man than me just because I play sequential. Nah. I think we should respect all kinds of skills and applaud those who master them.

I like the idea of breaking down the score board, they should do it. As for applauding those who master freestyle, I think there are many of the tactics a master freestyler employs to win should not be applauded.

Its fine as it is. In my opinion, freestyle takes more skill, if it is played realtime, than sequential because it involves timing too. However, if it is not realtime, it is often down to who can be online the most, which is why I no longer play it. Nevertheless, altering the points system wouldn't be fair to the freestylers.
