notify email when eliminated

Postby lgrupido on Sat Jun 18, 2011 12:06 pm

Please send a notification email when a player is eliminated.

As an unpaid player, I can only play 4 games at once. When I am eliminated from 1 game, I like to sign up for another ASAP.

Hmm... Certainly not a bad idea. I picture it being an option in the Control Panel under Board Preferences. Is this along the lines of what you were thinking?

I liked this idea a lot. there are still some games like teamgames where being able to react is usefull. Currently I use the addon "watch games" This helps me to achieve an overview of the games I am eliminated in recendy and keeps tabs on my teammates. But the suggestion is one I'd support. A pm/mail should be when losing, winning and killed in a game)

i don't see any real value for me in this suggestion. i am not interested in being bombarded with emails from CC, especially to tell me i have been eliminated from a speed game. i was there, i saw it happen.

Obviously like the other settings, you should have the option to turn it off/on.
However, it does show some need since that way you are also able to rate according to the gameplay you have seen. if a game lasts long, i dont even know how the game went anymore and i dont care... So this way its much shorter on the actual occurance.

While I can see minor benefits, the OP presented the suggestion as "it would help me play more games without paying any money". Not a great way to jump to the top of the priorities list.

you could apply reverse psychology by thinking that if the need for more games is being felt, there is an incentive to get premium.

why implement something that would just be turned off. there is very little if any value in this for premium members, especially those that play speed or lots of games as it would have to be turned off out of sheer annoyance.

there is a better suggestion out there to have numbers appear in brackets like it does for pms to let you know there is something new in the Eliminated or Finished tabs.

It could simply be set to "off" as default behavior, and you would then opt in to these e-mails if you wanted them.

Our job in Suggestions is simply to submit the suggestions we think should be good for the site. If the admins do not want to implement them because of business concerns, that is obviously their call, but I do not think it should be our place to guess what they would think on that end, and therefore not submit an otherwise good suggestion.

which means most people won't realise it is there, further diminishing its value as something to be implemented.

if implemented it would have to start as On

The biggest reason I'd like to have this is that if you have a lot of games going on, especially escalating, and its a crucial time, you might winder if you're still active and if you have a shot of winning. I know I lose track of certain games if I have too many.

Such site changes are usually listed in major feature updates in the Announcements forum, it would be hard to miss if you regularly pay attention to updates and also want this feature.

Since only 5% of users visit the forums, the majority of the site would be oblivious to it.

I am sure that more than 5% of the user base is aware of these updates since they are posted as headlines on the home page which link directly to the forum threads. I am not sure what the number you provided is based on but it is most likely quite inaccurate.

Anyway, this is a silly argument. If it's left on initially, you'll get a few e-mails and possibly get annoyed and turn it off right then. End of story. Not at all a reason not to implement this.

Yes, I did say I am an unpaid player (tough economy right now - will upgrade as soon as I am able)

But that doesn't mean it's not a good idea.

I think it makes sense to only implement this for regular games, and not for speed games.

I think that this is a good idea. If I was freemium, I would definitely want this. Before I paid up for premium, I kept a close eye on my e-mail to watch for when it was my turn. For those of us who are premium, I do see little advantage, but if you aren't premium, this is amazing, trust me!

I'm in favor.
