Concise description:
  • change the way scoreboard searches are done, including adding options and expanding the number of things you can search for

Specifics/Details:
  • search by continent, not just country
  • search for favorite map
  • search for those online and mods(i realize that these can be done by looking in the forum)
  • search for # of forum posts
  • check boxes for what you are looking for, like in the game finder
  • search of the things in the "search order list"
  • search by rank (find a place [on the scoreboard])
  • search by UG

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • will make it easier to find people/places/groups/things

I really like this idea. It would allow a quick way to sort people based on certain characteristics, and could provide for some interesting stats. Always nice to build upon the already existing features that CC has.

sorry to bump this thread, but seeing as we so far have 100% support (and from mods too), i really would like some more feedback to improve this idea and help make it a reality. thanks

I'm not so sure I understand some of your suggestions, vodean:

Specifics/Details:
  • search by continent, not just country Why would I want this feature? What purpose does this serve?
  • search for favorite map On the scoreboard??
  • search for those online and mods(i realize that these can be done by looking in the forum) I guess I could see this being a neat feature.
  • search for # of forum posts What?? Why???
  • check boxes for what you are looking for, like in the game finder I don't understand.
  • search of the things in the "search order list" Eh, what now?
  • search by rank (find a place [on the scoreboard]) Doesn't the scoreboard already do this?
  • search by UG Fair enough. I could see this as being useful.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • will make it easier to find people/places/groups/things

Maybe I'm not fully understanding your suggestions, but they are all about the Scoreboard specifically, yes?

I can understand at least some of them:

[*]search by continent, not just country Why would I want this feature? What purpose does this serve?
Some border are porous, especially in Unified (EEC) Europe. If I was curious how well European players are doing, I wouldn't want to have to go through every country individually, not just because there are so many of them, but becase they are unreliable. Many people live in Holland and work in Germany, or live in Slovenia but work in Italy, and so on. Can't speak for vodean, of course, but I can imagine myself being curious about how European players are doing as a group.

[*]search for favorite map On the scoreboard??
If you were trying to prove a theory, for instance, that people who like complex tend to score higher than people than people who like simple maps. Or if your favourite map is not very popular and you're trying to find new opponents.

[*]search for # of forum posts What?? Why???
Some people see this as a point of pride. Personally, I prefer to be known for quality, not quantity, but for many people quantity is everything, and they want to know how they measure up. Look through recent newspapers and see how many people are trying to set a new world record for "most Chicken McNuggets impaled on a single chopstick" or whatever, and you'll see how ubiquitous this obsession with numerical records is.

[*]search by rank (find a place [on the scoreboard]) Doesn't the scoreboard already do this?
No, it puts everyone in order, but you have to guess where a breakpoint is. So, if the break between Lieutenants and Sergeants is on Page Six, you will have to manually flip pages to find that out. And if you want to know how many Lieutenants there are in total, you will have to count them.
