i don't think what you said about some 'people' mastering the map and beating everyone is valid since anyone could practice the map before trying it like how it should be. getting your ass repeatedly handed to you by farmers on a map like stalingrad should not be the only way to learn a map and definitely turns people off to playing them.
reducing the amount of points games may be true, but maybe practice games could be restricted in number (1 for freemium 2-4 for premium) or restricted to your friends list.
trial by fire doesn't need to be the only way to learn.
making friends and playing on maps amongst yourself works
for example DaveH keeps signing tec805 & myself up for triples tournaments for maps we don't have a clue on
that is why we create games on obscure maps and invite people like yourself & tatianair
another thing that works is joining the usergroup Map Explorers - there you will play with others who also have no idea - people like me
